Really lady? Vent
So I have a monitor in my class for some of my special ed. kids. I know that they don't always have the background knowledge for all the subjects and I can handle that. I mean they are really just there to make sure their kids are doing the work.
Well this monitor is WORSE than the kids sometimes. I'd rather NOT have her in my room because it's more trouble than it's worth. She gets up in the middle of class to sharpen her pencil, disrupting my notes. She asked me to reteach her something during class (like I have time to do that when I'm checking students work). She has been teaching students the WRONG way to do things. I've had to talk to her about all of this and it's getting better but it's really just silly little things that disrupt the class. She's always getting phone calls for "family emergencies" and I'm sure some are legit but this has happened a bunch of times in the last month and I just can't see having that many "emergencies". She doesn't have a sick family member or anything like that.
Yesterday takes the cake though. I'm heating up water for an activity and I have a kettle on. It starts whistling and she goes over and TOUCHES the kettle and burns her hand. I'm sorry but even little kids know not to touch anything hot and if the kettle is whistling it's OBVIOUSLY hot.

The principal thinks he's helping by putting her in there so that wouldn't help. He feels more adult bodies mean more eyes on the kids. Thing is, she argues with the kids and is easy to get off topic. She actually STARTED a twilight/new moon conversation with kids before, the kids didn't start it but jumped right into the discussion while they were supposed to be doing work. I can't believe I had to go over and talk to that group with HER being a part of it.
Monitors don't have supervisors besides the principals so that would go nowhere either.
I basically just have to wait it out. Doubt she'll be in my class next year. It's just because of the number of special ed. students - we have a LOT this year.
Yeah, the special ed teacher agrees with me that she's useless with his kids. The other regular ed teachers love her in the classroom because she actually helps in their room. Guess she's a little better in other subjects. Thing is, they need a body to fufill the IEP and we can't hire anyone else and they can't get rid of her. Only option is putting someone else in there instead but finding someone available would be hard and I'm not even sure there is someone else.
This woman monitors the bathrooms most of the day if that says anything. Seems like they know what's she's most capable of.
