Mirena?

Does anyone use it or used it in the past?

I just went for my yearly today and discussed birth control options and my doc and I decided to use Mirena.  Just wanted to see if anyone had experience so I know what to expect, that's not from a pamphlet!

Re: Mirena?

  • I haven't but I have heard that it is EXTREMELY painful to insert.

And there are a whole lot of girls on the tri boards with IUI babies...that alone is enough to make me go another route.

I wonder if they were inserted incorrectly?  According to my doctor, it's as effective as a vasectomy.

  • If you've had kids I heard it wasn't very painful.

  • I think I'm going to try it.  I don't trust ANY birth control method 100%. Not to be TMI, but condoms will still be used.  Too much at stake!  But it'd be nice to not have to think about pills or anything for a really long time!

  • I heard it hurts like hell. A friend of mine said she was curled in bed for a full day with cramping after insertion.

  • I'm 26 with no kids and got the Mirena IUD inserted today. It is definitely tolerable, but not a walk in the park.  My Gynecologist prescribed me a xanax to take 1 hour before the procedure - I'm not sure if it really helped, but I think I was a little 'calmer' for the insertion.  It's been about 7 hours since my insertion and I'm still having some cramping. I've taken 2 extra strength 500mg tylenol and 2 midols so far today for the cramping. I've read on other forums that after insertion it's common to have cramps for that day or maybe even a week after.  I've been resting with a heating pad on my abdomen also to see if that helps with the cramps.  I can post one week from now and update how that is.  I hope this helps
