Girls....I'm goin' for it!

So M was blabbing away about MW2 (his favorite video game that he plays daily), I was kinda of paying attention, till he caught on that I really didn't care wtf he was saying (mainly because I don't any of it).  When he realized he was mid-sentence and says "Oooookay, and you don't care" to which I replied "No, honestly I don't" and he said "Babe, you're the one who told me I should buy this game"  "Yea, because I had heard many good things about it from every other man (and some women) and I knew you were contemplating buying it so I thought I'd give you my opinion cause I thought you'd probably enjoy it as well"  "Well, you should try it sometime, play with me, I would love for you to be able to play with me sometime"  "I can't even play Halo how the fvck do you expect me to be able to play this one?" "Well, it takes practice, you can't just try and give up".

My issue is the whole joystick thing.  I can't play with joysticks, and I don't know how many of you know but the PS and XBOX controllers have little joysticks on them (you use your thumbs to use them though).  I tried once to play Halo with him, because yes, honestly I thought it would be fun if I could get into a video game with him that he enjoys playing (video games are his "release" so I would never take that from him, plus he always stops playing when I ask, etc), anywho, didn't happen I couldn't get the hang of it so I gave up.

SO, the point of all this babbling is that I told him I'm going to jump in the shower and I will give it a try again (but play MW2, not Halo) and see what comes of it.

WTF am I getting myself into.  This man is lucky I love him so much.

  • Dude.  Go for it.  I don't think J would let me.  I always beat him at Scene It and Peggle.

  • Good luck!  I tired to play Halo once and got so frustrated I never tried again.  There's just too many buttons!

  • I've tried.  I can't play anything on the ps3 because of the controller.  Which is the reason we comprimised on the Wii.  He doesn't love the Wii but it is something that we at least can do together.  I hope you have a better outcome and this becomes something that you guys can do fun together. GL!
  • Good Luck with that Sheri! You are a brave woman.
  • Here's the outcome:

He can't play online with me, so we can only play against each other, which kinda gets boring real quick.  Anyway, he showed me the controls, told me what buttons do what and did a "practice" run with me.  I managed to kill him maybe 4 times.  He told me not to give up, I didn't get frusturated or anything (it IS just a game after all), but I laughed at myself because I can't coordinate the left joystick which makes you walk forward, backward, etc and the right joystick which turns you, and look at the map to see where the "enemy" (M) is and all the other stuff, but he said I did pretty good for having just played for the first time, he said it took him 2 weeks to learn this game, but I think when he said that he isn't thinking that he didn't have to learn the stupid controller along with it.  I don't have memorized where the circle, square, 'x', and triangle buttons are on the stupid thing.  Anyway, I did actually have some fun, though I really would have liked to be able to play online with him and other people, but he said he can do that with Halo, but doesn't do it on MW2.

  • These are the only games I like to play.  I've had an Xbox for years and I still get confused on the buttons.  I hit buttons to change weapons and end up reloading or jumping and giving away my position.  It's fun if you're not overly serious about it.
  • Yeaaah we got the wii so we could play together too...turns out I'm better at it (except for the games where you have to use it like a normal controller) and he gets pissy when he doesn't win. And he gets pissy when I can't keep up, it's a lose lose situation. There's no way I could ever put enough time & effort into it to raise my skill level even to beginner! I never had a gaming system in my life and he has spent (re: wasted) most of his life playing. Kudos for giving it a go!
  • Sometimes ya just have to accept that those interests, no matter how insane/boring, are going to be in your life forever so you might as well make the most of it! Which is my relationship with sports, pretty much.

  • We got DS's (refurbished cause we're cheap) so we can play together... I am just not a video game person... I do like the DS cause it's tiny and all and it's not too complicated...   I will play GUitar Hero (PS2), but that's about it.

    GL w it!!!

This is pretty much the same experience when I played MW2 with DH.

  • Glad you had a good time.

I play games with DH all the time and I had lots of trouble coordinating the moving forward/back and up/down joysticks. I tried Halo with him and friends a few times. I found if I reversed the sticks (so up was pushing the stick forward and down was pushing it backward), I could actually move better.
