Favorite books/series?

Any suggestions?

I've read almost all of James Patterson's and Patricia Cornwell's books. I've also read the Twilight series 3 times and the Sloppy First series recommended by a few of you girls.

I love to read and will read just about anything. I would love a new murder mystery author if anyone has a suggestion!

TIA!

Re: Favorite books/series?

  • My in laws got me hooked on Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series.  I would never have read them on my own but they are really good.  I also love Something Borrowed and Something Blue both by Emily Giffin and from what I hear they are suppose to be making the first one into a movie.  That's all I can think of at the moment.

  • I'm reading the Sookie Stackhouse Series aka Southern Vampire Series. The TrueBlood series on HBO is based on this series...it's pretty entertaining (although it took me a couple of books to really get into it). What I like about it is that mixes romance with mystery, plus there are "wars" and fights, so it's not too cheesy.

  • I'm addicted to the House of Night series.  If you liked Twilight and Harry Potter you will LOVE this.  Even if you didn't like Harry Potter you'll still like it :-)
  • Not murder mystery, but true crime--anything by Ann Rule.  I know, I've recommended this a few times on here but I really truly love her books!
  • Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella - love that series, currently re-reading it
  • John Grisham

I like Vince Flynn who pretty much has a main character Mitch Rapp that goes and saves the states from any possible attacks,

  • I just read to 2 great books in the past couple weeks, they are similar but definitely worth reading both.  A Friend of the Family by Lauren Grodstein and A Map of the World by Jane Hamilton.
  • Thanks for the great suggestions! I'm going to put my Sony Reader gift card to good use!

  • Mary Higgins Clark?  Very quick reads, but I find them enjoyable.

Also - if you liked Twilight, why not try Dracula by Bram Stoker?  I haven't actually read Twilight, but I doubt there is a better vampire story than Dracula - and I am not usually all that into classics. I've read it at least 4 times.

If you'll take non-murder mystery suggestions - I love Amy Tan.  Particularly A hundred secret senses and Saving Fish From Drowning.

  • I am in the middle of the first Stephanie Plum book right now - One for the Money by Janet Evanovich.  I like it... will read the next one for sure but I am not completely sucked in to the series.

I loved reading the Sookie Stackhouse books.  I stopped after book 8 because I read the reviews of the 9th book and they weren't so hot... but I keep thinking about what happens next so I think I will cave and read it anyways.

  • One of my favorite murder mystery books is "The Alienist" by Caleb Carr.  The sequal is "The Angel of Darkness".  Loved both of them!

If you like those two, "The Meaning of Night" by Michael Cox is supposed to be really good.  I have it, but haven't read it yet.  Several people who also like Caleb Carr recommend it to me.

  • i love patricia cornwell, but since you have read that already i like the alexandra cooper series by linda fairstein. she is a DA in new york and it is like patricia cornwell but from the legal perspective. i haven't finished reading the series, but of the 5 or 6 i have read i like it.
