the worst part of being overdue...

is feeling like we're disappointing someone every time I talk to them. Everyone is so excited, and it sucks to have to tell them "no baby yet" every time they ask (which they seem to do, daily).

I've said from the beginning that the baby probably wouldn't be here until mid-January, heck I even said mid-January when my due date was still in December.  It's like no one believed me....

Lets hope this week goes faster than the last so I can finally have some good news to share!

Re: the worst part of being overdue...

  • Has your Dr made you an appointment to be induced yet?
  • I'll be induced at 42 weeks (unless there is some reason to go earlier).

So I have maximum one more week to go which makes me happy.

  • you're not disappointing anyone! Everyone is just very excited for you! I can't hear to the good news so I can come and visit with ya! ?
  • Ditto Sarah, you're not disappointing anyone, everyone is just really excited for you.

I hope for your sake though, this week goes fast!

  • I'm not disappointed :) it's so exciting!!
  • I'm sure the waiting is killing you! Like everyone else said, it's just the excitement everyone has - you're not disappointing them.

At least you know within a week you'll be holding your baby :) Can't wait to hear all about it!

  • Agreed! You are totally not disappointing anyone. They are just excited with you guys for your little one to come!

  • Ah, I remember those days. When people asked, I wanted to say, "Don't worry, you'll hear when it happens." Just think, you're not disappointing anyone, you're merely prolonging their excitement and suspense! And when LO does finally arrive, everyone can say "Finally!"

You seem to have a great attitude about it, though. Hang in there. I hope this week flies by -- and maybe LO will decide to show up sooner.

  • That last week was the worst. I hated it. I stopped answering the phone and emails.

Sad  I was hoping week 41 would be better than wk 40...

I know no one wants to make me feel bad, and they're all just really excited, this is the first grandbaby on both sides, so everyone is super pumped. But they sound so sad when we tell them there is no news...

If we have another baby I'm totally telling everyone the due date is whatever 43 week is, then baby will be "early" no matter what!

  • That's a really good idea Shannon. I hope to get to 37 weeks next baby.

  • Oooh good idea about giving a later due date, I should have thought about that :)

I told my family that they couldn't be here for the birth and that we'd like at least 2 weeks to ourselves so they all want to book a visit right at 42 weeks. I've tried to explain that the due date is give or take 2 weeks but they don't seem to understand.

  • this happened to me when I was 2 weeks late with Noah, and like Jen said, the last week was the worst (for me, and with all of the phone calls, etc). this time, with J, I was determined not to let it get to me, and convinced myself of a "birth month" and not a due date. whenever anyone asked (other than my parents) I'd just say in July (since the dd was the 15th). I advise all friends about preparing yourself, and others, by giving yourself a due month.

GL in your last week Shannon. I'm excited for you and R too!

  • I also found that if I didn't post something on FB every second of the day people thought I must be having the baby. Annoying.
  • YOu are not at all disappointing anyone, like you said they are all super pumped.  I like the idea of stating the due date 2 weeks later, then baby will always be early in their eyes.  At least there is a light at the end of the tunnel and baby will be here in a week!  GL Shannon!

  • I know the feeling!! I had a Dr appt on my due date and was so excited when he told me I was 3cm and he could feel my water bag right there and that I probably wouldn't make it until the weekend (this was on a Wednesday). I was so excited and everyone was just waiting for that phone call... NOT!! I had an appt for an ultrasound that Monday (which the Dr didn't think I would need!) and I got induced the next day, which made me exactly 41 weeks when she was born.Everyday felt like an eternity and I thought this baby would never come!! Don't worry you're not disappointing anyone, it's just the suspense!!

haha I totally have watched triple's FB page and thought "oh, not yet, because she posted about 2 hrs ago". If there was a big gap, I'd probably wonder. But I don't ask because I figure news will come when the baby is here and they are ready to share :)

lol, someone *just* posted something like this on my fb wall, my inactivity on fb for the day is apparently cause for suspicion!

You must also keep posting on here, otherwise I will be suspicious ;P haha

  • I am sooooo with you on this.  I am also finding that people (meaning my nanny and my ILs) are getting themselves so wound up.  My ILs are pushing to help out any way they can, and mention it every time we talk to them.  Great and all, but the baby hasn't come yet, we don't know what kind of help we need.  My nanny has also decided that she wants to come to the hospital (which I have said no to) because she's getting impatient (like she has a baby in her womb waiting to come out!).

Next baby I'm going to tell people 43w too...good idea!!

lol towards then end before I found out I was being induced I decided to post that I was drinking Raspberry Leaf tea (supposedly brings on labour).  I really didn't want to go over due because I was such a whale and so uncomfortable.   Well I forgot about it and didn't change my status for a day, or write on anyone's wall.  BAM people who NEVER call me were leaving me messages on my phone saying "DID THE TEA WORK!"  When I changed my status to "still pregnant until Tuesday"  I got crap from a bunch of people who were sure that I had gone into labour.
