Reco a Furniture Store

to buy a dining room set from.  Looking for something quality but also reasonably priced.  My style would be transitional (not traditional but not quite modern).  We have dark (espresso) and cherry colored woods throughout the house.

Needs: At least 8 chairs (10 is even better...I have a big family!), leaf, china cabinet.

I had a set all picked out and ready to buy in the next few weeks but when I looked today they were sold out!  In my past experience w/ Costco.com furniture, there's no telling if/when they'll ever re-stock it so gotta start over again.  Guess that's what I get for trying to spread out our spending :(.

Re: Reco a Furniture Store

  • we tend to get our furniture at antique shops. The quality is the top notch. The price is normally reasonable. Plus, the search can be fun. I would start at Ohio Valley Antique Mall it is on rt 4.
  • We get a lot of our furniture at Furniture Row.  The prices are reasonable and they have a pretty good selection.  Furniture Fair is good too.

We bought both our dining room table and chairs and matching buffet/server as well as our kitchen table and chairs from Furniture Row and have been very happy.

  • You might want to check out Verbargs.  They're having a stickley truckload sale right now (40 % off at least).  They're also having new year sales on other stuff.  The prices when not on sale can be steep but it is really good quality.
  • We've gotten all of our wood furniture from Woodcraft. They have a ton of options in-store plus a few hundred books to flip through. They do custom finishing. Prices are amazing, too.

  • If you're willing to consider vintage, take a walk through 'Legacies' in Hyde Park Plaza. They usually have at least one or two really long old tables - you know, the perfect kind your grandma probably had. Most have chairs with them too, but if not, you could always 'modern chic' it with some new chairs. And the money goes to a good cause.
  • I got mine at Bassett Furniture in Fields Ertel.
  • You absolutely can't beat the quality of Brown's Marketplace in Hamilton.  Of course, you pay for that quality, but it isn't as expensive as I expected when I compared the quality to other places.  It's made just for you so it takes a few weeks, but you can do a lot of customization.  Try to get 20% off since that's what they typically do during their sales.
  • Our table and hutch set is a hand me down but is from Bassett. It is 20+ years, and still going strong. If/when we start looking I would start looking there again.

This exactly.  ANy piece of furniture that we have bought for our house has come from them.  Their OhioPike store (Amelia) is now an "outlet", but not in the traditional sense.  It's more lines that are being discontinued, thus reduced in price, however you still order it and pick from different styles, colors, etc.  Their customer service is amazing, too.

  • Wow thanks so much for all the ideas!  As usual, you ladies never fail to deliver.  I didn't even know some of these stores existed :).
