Melissa!

Okay, your latest blog post has inspired me to redo my bedroom.  I LOVEEEEEE your bedroom, I think it is gorgeous!  I just wanted to ask you, what colors did you use for your room?  Two shades of blue?  I really want to brighten up our room.  And the technique you used from HGTV, do you have/know where there is an article on that technique.  I had my DH up until midnight last night talking about all these ideas for the bedroom....AND then I jumped on overstock and found some pillowcases to mitch/match up our bedding. I found these in water and then maybe mix with the second set in ivory?  What do you think?

Re: mom2one

  • For starters...ugh I'm retarded. I had a typo in that post and the line "stumbled across these photos in my blog" is supposed to read "a blog". The bedset in those photos is the same as mine, but the rest of the room was an inspiration room I found in this blog (which I also meant to link up to in that post, I must have been in a hurry or really tired): http://www.brooklynlimestone.com/search?q=bedroom

Yikes...sorry for that confusion, I by no means realized I accidentally took credit for that room. Oopsies! The good news is that blogger did share the paint color for her bedroom simply as "Silver Marlin" but didn't share a brand. But a little googling reveals it is a Benjamin Moore color, so I hope that helps you a little!

As for your ideas...I LOVE those sets together. They have just enough similarities in the pattern not to clash, and would add such a fun custom personality to the bed! Love love love it!

As for the technique for painting, it was about 3 years ago, and it was on one of those Designed to Sell or Design on a Dime shows and they just touched on it. It's a really easy technique though...just get yourself a level and some painters tape. Mark off your stipe going all the way around the room...that's right...every wall exactly the same. We made ours about 1/3 of the way up the wall, and about 12" wide. Tape outside the lines you made, and then paint in your stripe with your lighter color paint. Remove the tape and let it dry (and be sure to only get a quart of this light colored paint, you won't need alot unless you have a huge huge room). After its totally, retape your lines, this time inside your stripe, so you are not covering any unpainted wall (you dig?). Then paint the rest of the room (being careful not to drip on the lighter color stripe...like me haha) with the darker color. Amd viola...done! The trick to getting this look to flow is to pick your darker color first, then move up only ONE color darker on your color strip, or tell your paint mixer guy what you are going for. In our case, MIL gave me the darker paint, and it's a golden tan...something about cashew color. When we went back to the store they discontinued the color, so we had to just guess on what the closest lighter shade would be. The guy at True Value was really helpful and I think the one we picked looks perfect together. It should be noticably lighter, but not in a different color stip. HOPEFULLY all that made sense. Let me take some pics of our wall colors so you can see, I'll post them to my blog tomorrow. Hopefully this all made sense and let me know if you have any other questions. Sorry for the delay in response!!

  • Thank you!!!!!  Oh I would SO take credit for that room, its gorgeous! :)  hehe...
