Disable Right Click on blog

I want to disable the right click/save as button on my blog.  I know it's not a fool proof way to prevent my pictures from being taken, but I'd like to make it a little more difficult for the average person.  Can someone help me?

Re: Disable Right Click on blog

  • It requires you to insert javascript code into your source code.  You can find the necessary javascript code in many different varieties in many different places all over the internet.

Out of curiosity, why are you looking to make it more difficult for your pictures to be taken?  Disabling right-click takes away far more functionality than the ability to save pictures from your blog, and can be very irritating.  It could even deter people from your blog.  Check out this article for some thoughts on that.  If you still want to do it, there are links to some javascript code you can use at the end of the article.

Alternatively, have you considered watermarking your images?  That way, even if someone does take the picture and re-uses it, you still get the credit.

Ditto this.  Anyone can rip off your images by simply doing a screen shot and editing it. Watermarking your images would be your best bet!

This. It's UBER-annoying. I use right click to open new windows or tabs, go back in the browser, bookmark a page, and a whole host of other things. When people override basic functionality with a script that doesn't even do all that great a job of protecting images, it's supremely frustrating (and some of them don't even work right - I'll get a modal window that says, "Don't steal!" and then when I click OK my context menu appears).

I'd recommend either watermarking or a clear GIF fix - you can make your main image a background image and have a clear image over it so when people right click, all they get is a blank image. There are probably lots of places out there that will automate it, but this is the first one I stumbled across on Google - http://tiporama.com/tools/cnwiz.php

But really, the same thing as any other kind of information online holds true - if you don't want people to steal it, don't post it.

  • Thanks for the info.  I don't really have a good reason for it, I was just curious and had seen other blog that were like it and thought I'd do the same.  But after all your info,  I definitely will not do that.
