Diva cup story ( don't worry not gross)

So I ordered a Diva cup online about a week ago and it came in the mail the other day. The website I ordered from said buy the Diva Cup get the cleaner for free. My Diva Cup came, the cleaner did not. I was a bit annoyed but did not think too much of it. I sent an email to the customer service department of the company not figuring much would come of it. I got an email today letting me know they were 3 day shipping me a new order including the Diva Cup and the cleaner. So for the price of one I am getting two Divas and a free cleaner :) worked out well for me I guess!

PS- am on my first cycle with the Diva, so far so good I think I have it down!

  • That's awesome!

They see us rollin'...they be hatin'.
  • So what will you do with the second? My original one has made it over 5 years, and doesn't seem to be in any hurry to wear out.

  •  I read that you are suppose to replace every year, is that not so? If you have been using one for fives years I am questioning this... opinions?
  • They last 10 years!

  • The website recommendation has changed since I bought mine, and I'm not sure why. I've had zero issues using mine as long as I have and have no intentions of replacing it in the near future. They used to say 10 years, and now they say 1 year. Something in there seems like a marketing move to me, but I guess it could be an obscure health regulation.

  •  I just went and checked the website it does say one year is the suggested replacement time. But if it used to say ten years why not go with that! I was going to hang onto it for replacing later on but maybe I will give it to a friend and spread the word :)

  • You could do a giveaway contest (blog style).  Or you could store it forever, until the first one wears out... i've been using mine several years and don't see it wearing out anytime soon.

This. I've had mine for about 4 years now and it's as good as new. The site also used to say it was okay with an IUD and now it says it's not. I have an IUD and have never had any issues.

I'm thinking it's become more popular over the past couple years so now they're having to cover their butts to prevent legal issues. Sort of like how those little packets of silica gel that come with your shoes say "do not eat" or hair dryers say "don't use this in the bathtub." I think a little common sense goes a long way. As long as you clean it thoroughly, I would think you could use it as long as it's... well... usable.

  • SO while we are discussing, do you all boil you Diva to get it clean?

SO while we are discussing, do you all boil you Diva to get it clean?

I have in the past, but I don't do it regularly. Here's my usual cleaning regimen:

-Wash with antibacterial soap the first day of my cycle prior to inserting (just to get any dust or grime it's accumulated during the month it's been in the drawer, even though I keep it in its little bag)

-Wash daily in the shower with unscented soap (Dr. Bronner's)

-Usually just rinse with water when changing (about once a day)

-Wash with antibacterial soap at the end of my cycle

-Soak in a diluted hydrogen peroxide:water mix (about 1:10 ratio) at the end of my cycle to remove stains (not that it should matter, but I like it looking clean and new, lol)

  • Thank you for sharing your cleaning routine! I think I will do a similar routine to keep mine clean and new like.
  • I boil mine once a month. I have a container that I pop in the microwave to boil it in so I don't have to use a pot. I wan't sure if it would ruin the plastic at first, but it didn't. I guess the good news is if I ever go into outer space the thing won't melt in me...

Congrats on your 1rst cycle success! It took me two, and I think I'm still learning, but it's no longer traumatic. I applaud you for being such a fast learner!

Thanks! I am also impressed with my success! I have had a few good learning moments that attribute to it. I think I also did enough reading to be helpful!

Just a 2nd opinion here.  I tried one cycle, just rinsing it for daily use (instead of washing with the Diva Wash) and I got a UTI immediately.  I'd say if you are prone to UTIs to be more rigorous with cleaning routines.  I wash it everytime I changed it, and boiled it after my cycle was over, then stored it in the bag.

Thanks for the advice. I have been wondering if I am getting a UTI. I feel like I have the beginning symptoms. Am waiting it out to see. ( I really hope not). With that in mind I am going to use the diva wash daily from now on!

  • If you're in the wondering stage, take 1000 mg of vitamin C daily for the next few days. Helps fight it off, sometimes.

  • Coming in a bit late to this discussion, but I LOVE my Diva.  Here's my washing routine.  I am super paranoid about getting a UTI, those things are terrible!

-Boil for 10 minutes between cycles.

-Wash my hands with unscented Dr. B's before removing it.

-Dump in the toilet, wipe out with TP (I can't stand having anything in the sink where I brush my teeth), wash with Dr. B's.

    -Insert.

I drink cranberry juice off and on, the acidity of it helps prevent UTIs.  Been working well for me so far.
