Help me sort my brain re: grocery shopping

Hubs and I seriously haven't been grocery shopping since well before the holidays. Tongue Tied I've cooked through pretty much everything we had in the freezer and fridge lol. Our pantry is looking pretty bare also. So moted. Embarrassed

I have a whole list but I just want to double check I'm not missing key things.

  • I usually hit up Costco for drinks and house items like TP and papertowels and dish soap and laundry detergent and the such.
  • I hit the local Growers Direct for fruit and veggies.
  • I do Fresh and Easy for meat & poultry
  • Trader Joe's for dairly products, frozen veggies, fish and easy sides and snack foods.

Anyway, I just want to compare and contrast with you-  what are some faves and staples you usually get and where do you get them?

 TIA!

Re: Help me sort my brain re: grocery shopping

  • i wish my fridge/freezer were empty - i never have any room in there after i do my grocery runs.  i need to cook through what i have, too.

i buy most of my frozen veggies and dry goods-type groceries at fresh & easy.  they have the best prices on a lot of things.  i also find a lot of great prices in target's grocery section - better than any grocery store.

  • I'm similar to you Yahpee.

Costco - household goods like TP, paper towels, laundry and dish soap (we are so twins!), alcohol.

Growers Direct for produce, or from TJ's or Ralphs as they come on sale.

Meat and fish - mainly Ralphs as they come on sale.

Frozen foods and packaged stuff - Ralphs as they come on sale.

TJ's - dairy, eggs, whatever sounds good for the week.

I also like Ranch 99 for things like spices and rice if I ever get to go.

  • I'm all over the place!

Target: Juice, pasta sauce, cereal, frozen veggies, soup, bread, etc.

    TJ: Frozen fruit/veggies, chicken

    Grower's Direct: Fruit, veggies

Sprouts: Fruit, veggies, spices grains legumes (bulk)

Vons:  Misc. not sold at the other stores

  • I am a lazy shopper. I buy everything between Von's and Costco. We go to Von's every week and Costco usually every other week. I get bulk things at Costco and snacks, fruits, veggies, etc at Von's. Every once in awhile I hit up TJ's for their frozen stuff.
  • i'm lazy, too.  i just do ralphs and TJ's.  costco maybe one every couple of months.
  • Our major weekly trips are:

Costco: milk, eggs, water, romaine lettuce, bananas, pet items (cat food, litter, etc), lunch meats, etc.

Wholesome Choice: meat, dairy products, most of our veggies.

Vons: Whatever I need to fill in from the other two + double coupon items.

Oh that's right! Ranch 99 also has a great (and rare!) fruit and veggie selection.

  • I second Target's Grocery section.  Most stuff in there is significantly cheaper than any other store.  Especially there dairy products ... cream cheese is under $2.

I do a lot at Stater Brothers (there's one near the house and one by work) ... meat especially.  I will hit up Vons for milk (hubs likes their brand better) and a few things.  Costco for bulk items.  Trader Joe's for sides, etc.

I just noticed a Sprouts opened up on Brookhurst and Adams.  I haven't had the chance to check it out, yet.  What is that store like?  Is like Henry's, TJ's or something else?
