Work Poll

How far is your commute to work?

Just wondering. There is a house we may be intersted in, but my commute to work would be about an hour.

Re: Work Poll

  • Six minutes.  But that's only one way.  It's a whole 12 minutes I spend in my car getting to and from work.  lol.  I am a lucky girl.
  • About 40 minutes each way.  I'm pretty used to it, so I don't really mind it.

  • I used to drive an hour to work but now I drive only 30 mins.

I don't think the drive is that bad, it's the having to get up earlier that I didn't like.

  • I went from a 10 minute commute to almost an hour commute (with traffic that is, usually would be about 30 mins...stupid rush hour!).

My DH has a 1.15 hr commute.  He works in South Philly and we live in Delaware.

Even though the drive sucks, we did it for better school districts, a great neighborhood and more house for our money.

  • My commute right now is about 10 min.  I have had lovely Los Angeles and SF commutes though that were much longer.  When I lived in Pasadena, I was 15 miles from work and depending on traffic it would take me over an hour.  In SF I was seven miles, but took the street car so it was usually about 45 min. Honestly, I didn't mind the commutes when I had them, you get used to it.

  • 10 minutes to work, 10 minutes home.  M has a 45 minute commute to work and a 45 minute home (depending on traffic).
  • Mine is a whopping 8 miles-approx 20 min...

DH travels about 70 miles each way-I couldn't do it!

  • Right now, it's about 25-30mins driving to work... And driving home is usually about 45mins to an hour. (And that's using the carpool lane! Good ol' LA traffic)

In a few weeks, my commute will be 3 minutes... WALKING ; )

  • ABout 25-40 minutes one way depending on traffic
  • about 10 minutes, which is lucky in Indy, so I'm happy!
  • Depending on traffic, 15-20 minutes.  I've had longer commutes and actually liked them, b/c it was downtime for me, esp. in the afternoons- it let me decompress from my day.

  • 45 to an hour, each way, for 32 miles. Which isn't too bad, considering it's LA/Orange County. . . If I had to pick my commute time, I would love to have a 15-20 minute commute. It's nice to be close to work, but I don't want to be TOO close. And my commute is when I have my "me" time, and also make phone calls (using my hands-free!) to my out of state girlfriends.

If it's going to be an hourish, tops, and it's a great opportunity, don't let the commute hold you back! A great house can be hard to find.

  • 40 minutes. And it's awful. I have to take two of the most overcrowded subway lines and transfer at one of the busiest stations during rush hour. And then I get off at the most populated stop in NYC. It's a bad combo. When we move, I'm seriously considering where we live in relation to where I work. I think if a more low-key commute would do a lot for my back .
  • I have an extreme commute.

Right now, my commute is 1.5 hrs door to door.  It's 5-10 minutes to the train, 5-10 minute wait, 45-50 minutes on the train, 0-10 min wait for the shuttle, 10-15 min on the shuttle.

In our new town, I will have to add another 15-20 min on the train and/or 15-20 min to the drive to the train.  So my commute will be 1.75-2 hrs each way.

That's working in DTLA for you.  I do get 130 or so per month in transportation allowance from work, which is nice.  Most people I work with have a 45 min-1 hr commute.

I can do a lot on the train.  Mostly, I chill out.

The sad thing is, when it's a no-traffic day, I can get to work in 35 min, door to door.

  • I'm jealous of people with short commutes.

  • My commute is 15-20 minutes one way.  I work off-hours so I never deal with traffic.  My office is only about 12 miles from my house, but if I went in/left during rush hour it'd take me about an hour+ to get to and from the office.  (I've done it before and it sucked!)

  • Another Southern California commuter here.....it sucks.

It's about 30ish miles (each way) so depending on traffic, it can be anywhere from 30 minutes to upwards of 1.5 hours each way. On average, it takes me about an hour there and an hour back. I've been doing it for over 5 years now and I'm so over it, but other than the commute, I can't complain too much so I deal with it.

Dana- I am SOOOO JEALOUS of your new commute.....3 minutes??? Walking??? You could oversleep everyday and still make it on time.....LOL

I'd kill for something like that.

  • I live about 30 miles from work and it take's 30 - 45 minutes each way depending on traffic. I HATE the drive. I am hoping to get transferred to a closer location soon. I feel like I waste so much time in my car.
  • 15-25 each way, depending on how many slow-pokes are out.
  • 10-15 each way, same for D.  We're pretty lucky.

  • 7 minutes-ish, but I can make it 5 if I feel dangerous.

Now its 20 minutes at least b/c it includes Hunter pick up and drop off.  So about 5 minutes to daycare, 10 minutes to kiss and cuddle bye, and 5 minutes to work.  I feel like its too much.  I am spoiled.
