How would you handle this?

There are 5 of us girls upfront and all have incoming lines.

Every day each and every one of these girls is inconsiderate and all go to lunch, at the same time leaving me to cover all lines. And another line from a chick upstairs. Making it a total of 6 lines on me coming in.

I have made it known in the past that it wasn't cool and have commented on it before.

So how do you bring this up to your boss?  My sup is super cool and I'm sure I could just come out and be blunt about it, but I don't want it to come off like i'm the crybaby and telling on them.

This has been addressed by our Executive Director before.

TIA

Re: How would you handle this?

  • Oh and I have to piss like a racehorse right now... so i'm really screwed.
  • I would write out a lunch schedule, bring it to the boss for approval, and give it to them.
  • Leave for lunch before they all do.  :)

Really, though, I'd bring it up to your supervisor and just be straightforward.  I doubt you'll come across as whiny unless you throw a tantrum.  When I worked the front desk, there had to be a minimum of two people available in the office to take phone calls/visitors and we didn't have as many lines as you do.

this is exactly what I was going to say. ;-) But I guess they could just all leave when u get back and you'll still be screwed.

I'd just go in and ask the boss if you guys can work out a lunch schedule. i wouldn't concider that whinney at all. And if the girls do think that.. oh well, let them try being stuck there and see how they like it

  • I work in HR and would never think someone was "tattling" on another employee in a situation like this. I would send them all an email asking if we can coordinate our lunch schedules so that I'm not left taking all the calls.  And if you don't think they'll respond, CC my boss and the Executive Director on the email. If I didn't get cooperation then I'd go to my supervisor.  You'd be surprised what people will do for you if you just ask.  You can even joke about not being able to go to the bathroom when they're all gone at the same time.

  • Why doesn't your boss pay attention to this?  Geez!  I would be up front and tell your boss.  It's not right!
  • If it's been addressed before I'd go back to your Exec. Director and inform him that while it has been addressed before there has been no change and you would like to have it re-addressed so that there is ample coverage at the desk at all times of the day.
