Ive applied for a new job (who knows if anything would come of it). But it would mean a MAJOR commute for both DH and I. We would have to move to the Greensboro area and he'd commute to Statesville and me to Chapel Hill. DH already commutes about an hour so it would only be 10-15 minutes longer each way for him. I commute about 4 seconds. The new job is what I want to do and pays 10,000-15,000 more then my current job.
Is this commute/move totally madness? Have I lost my mind?!?
Re: Is this madness?
For a $10,000 to $15,000 a year pay raise?
Hell no, you haven't lost your mind.
Good luck!
what area are you currently in?
I commute about 50 minutes one way and I can honestly say it's worth it for the JOB not the money. I actually get bitter about the money when I think about how long it takes me to drive. Some days I HATE it, other days it's really not that bad.
I bet you are anxious though and if you need a change, don't be scared to try it!
there are a LOT of people in Greensboro who commute to Chapel Hill/Durham area (and vice versa - I had a few professors at UNCG who lived in Chapel Hill)- so many so that there are commuter options through PART (Piedmont Area Regional Transit)- http://www.partnc.org/index.htm It might be worth checking out if you do make the move.
and if it's for a better job and better money, I'd definitely do it!
No -- he is doing really well at his job and is potentially up for a promotion (also comes with a large raise) thus the commute is a sacrifice we would have to make long term. It is a faint possibility he would be able to work in the Triangle a few days a week but make the commute the rest of the days so living more in that direction wouldnt make sense b/c it would double his commute.
This was my concern as well. Would that extra 10-15k be worth it after the commuting costs, time lost during commuting, etc.?
