Hi, ladies.
I'm getting married at the Phoenix in April and was wondering if any of you who had your wedding there or have been to a wedding there could recommend food selections. I'm interested in hors d'oeuvre, soup/salad, and entree suggestions. Please let me know if you have any favorites as well as anything to avoid. Also, how many of their hors d'oeuvres is a good amount for cocktail hour? Is 4 too skimpy, should we go for 5-6?
I'm anxious about the tasting and want to make sure we get to try things we'll be happy with. If you had a tasting there, please let me know how many selections of each course you got to try and overall how the tasting went.
I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance!
Re: food at the Phoenix, can anyone suggest menu choices?
My brother got married at the Phoenix a million years ago so I am probably little help. I do remember they had the Prime Rib which everyone said was very good. I don't care for Prime Rib so, as a guest, I would have liked another option.
For my own wedding, we chose 4 hors d'oeuvres for cocktail hour which was sufficient. I would think you'd do fine with four provided your cocktail "hour" doesn't turn into cocktail two and three hours where guests are getting quite hungry.
The Phoenix is a lovely setting for a reception. Good choice! Enjoy planning your day.
We got married at the Phoenix in March 2007. It was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. We did the Gold Package (I just looked on their website). We had three hors d'oeuvres passed for cocktail hour. We only had 100 people at our wedding, so we didn't need as many. We had the duet of Filet Mignon and Salmon and the Phoenix Salad. We also had a vegetarian dish alternative for a few of our guests. Everything was absolutely delicious. The table service was flawless. We didn't have to worry about anything.
We added a couple hours to the open bar. They even let us change up the premium liquor they normally serve for no additional cost. They were going to serve Jack Daniels for whiskey drinks, but we requested Makers Mark (for my DH and his crazy UK friends) and they didn't even bat an eye.
We tried almost every hors d'oeuvre they had at our tasting. Don't be afraid to ask! We just told them everything we wanted to try and they didn't have any problem with it. You are spending a lot of money. They want your business. My experience is that they will do whatever you want within reason
Have so much fun! I'm so glad we got married there.

Thanks for your replies, ladies. I feel very encouraged now. : )
lovetara, I'd love to hear your review after the Christmas party!
notguilty, I asked to try 8 appetizers for our tasting and they refused to make 2 of them because they need some ingredients they will only buy in bulk. I guess I should have just asked to try everything and whatever they couldn't make would have been ok. Now I don't have much of a selection. They didn't even want to make the 6 they finally agreed too, saying that they do open house type tastings for appetizers every April. But my wedding is in April and they didn't tell me about these group tastings in February and March when I was asking about tastings and signing the contract. They just said the tasting happens 3 months before the wedding. I always feel so guilty about asking vendors for things, I don't know if I'm being more demanding than their other customers. But I agree, I am paying a lot and I expected them to be a little more accommodating about the tasting. Maybe everything will go ok, though, since everyone has such great reviews.
I had my reception at The Phoenix in October and it was amazing. I highly recommend! I had turkey pinwheels, chicken kabobs, etc. We had the gold package and we did the chicken and salmon duet. I was great. I was worried about not having steak but you would not believe all of the complements we got about how good the food was!
You can't go wrong with The Phoenix. I thought they were very accomodating, it may depend on who is your planner. My planner was Sam and she is now longer there. If you have an issue I would bring it up but seriously in the end, it is a great place to have your reception. I am still getting complements on my reception and I have to admit it was pretty awesome!
I hope that helps!
