ON moms

I've been reading about what hospitals supply moms right after birth, but I'm wondering if hopsitals here do the same thing as ones in the US (being that everything is covered by OHIP). When you gave birth, what did you get (ie, tucks pads, dermoplast spray, mesh undies, nipple cream, maxi pads)? Just trying to plan my hospital bag. Thanks!

Re: ON moms

  • It really depends on the hospital.  3 years ago with DS they gave us almost everything and just recently with DD there was nothing.  No pads, diapers, wipes, nothing.  I would check with the hospital or if nothing else make sure you have everything that you think you may need.
  • Every hospital is different. At mine (Cambridge) I got diapers, wipes, maxi pads, mesh underwear, shampoo, soap. I may have gotten other things if I had had a vaginal birth.
  • My cousin had her baby 11 months before me and she was given everything.  No need to take anything to the hospital.  I was supplied with some pads but only enought for like 1 1/2 days.  I needed to supply more of my own.  No mesh underwear.  I spent 4 days in the hospital.  We were given some diapers and wipes for DS but we needed to bring our own.  We went through almost a whole thing of our own wipes. (DH sucked at cleaning up after diapers. lol.)  We were given some bottles and formula when we were haiving issues feeding.  I brought my own shampoo and soap but could have used the stuff they supplied there.  i was given a small sample of nipple cream.

  • When I had Ruari, nothing but a pair of mesh undies and a pad (I didn't stay in the hospital, we left right after).  I'm having #2 at a rural hospital, and my MW told me that they supply everything (I'm still packing my own stuff though...just in case...I'd hate to have to send DH back to pack for me!)
  • All I got at the hospital were 1 pair of mesh panties (they may have given me more if I had asked, but I hated them, and I brought some panties with me anyways), a package of pads (which I didn't use because I didn't like them, and I brought my own pads anyways) and a peri bottle.  I packed tuck's pads (didn't use them, though as I had a c-section) and nipple cream, etc.  HTH! :)

  • They had diapers, vaseline, maxi pads and 2 pairs of mesh undies (limit 2 per person, wth was that about?!), but that was it.  No tucks or nipple cream. I think it's hospital specific though.

  • Definitely contact your hospital (or, the info might even be on their website).

My hospital provided everything.  Pads, mesh undies, diapers, cloths to wipe baby, stool softener.  I can't remember if they had nipple cream, but I was only in for about a day and half - not enough time to even get sore.  I'm not sure about the tuck's pads.  I didn't ask.
