Ontario gals

Do you find it faster/easier to cross the border at Windsor or Sarnia? I always cross at Windsor but google maps keeps telling me Sarnia is the faster route.

Re: Ontario gals

  • I live IN Windsor so I'm no help.

I guess it depends where you're coming from and and where you're going to?

  • Kitchener - Florida
  • I'm in Windsor and I think our border is one of the slowest. They have always been more strict here than other borders, in my experience. (e.g. regular car searches, long interviews at the booth). The bridge is better than the tunnel though.
  • I always feel that Windsor is closer/faster and I'm more familiar with it but apparently it's faster to go through Sarnia.  It's probably not that much of a difference.
  • When we go to Florida we always cross in Windsor.

When are you going to Florida?  Charlotte and I are going down in Feb for 9 days to see my parents and then back again in March with Curtis for a week. I can't wait!

  • We are going at the end of February. We are headed on a cruise that leaves from Ft. Lauderdale. It was too expensive to fly so we decided to drive.
  • Working in the auto industry, you can imagine that we take fairly regular trips to Detroit.  Coming from Oakville, it's pretty much the same whether we go through Sarnia or Windsor.  It just sort of depends on how bored (Sarnia) you feel like being.  Ha.

  • It seems to me that Sarnia would be out of the way to go - I would think that the actual border crossing might be faster, but it seems to me that Windsor would be more direct.

I haven't crossed that often lately, but it seems to me that every time I cross now, it takes WAY longer to get back into Canada than it does to get into the States.

  • Have you looked at Southwest airlines from buffalo?  The flights going to ft lauderdale are going for about 75$ a person.

I have always taken the buffalo route, i dont find it too bad going but home is always alittle longer

  • DH's family used to drive from London -> Florida every year and they went through Sarnia

I looked last night and for a direct flight at the time we would need it to be at it added up to just under $1000 for the 2 of us.

We have the buffalo route mapped out as well but since it is the more dangerous route (with the weather) we will make our final decision about which way to go right before we leave.

  • Ive used this airline many times from Buffalo and have never had a problem.  Its a good, cheap option.

This is what I was thinking as well.

Oh me too. I love flying Southwest!. But like I said...right now it is just under $1000 for the 2 of us so it is much cheaper to drive.

I thought Sarnia was out of the way as well but according to google it is actually the faster of the 2 routes.

  • We've always been quicker going through Sarnia... although that usually involves seeing the inlaws, so personally, I prefer the Windsor route. :)
