Re: POLL! IHO surprise boxes of china in the basement...

  • Did your family have fine china when you grew up?  Yes

Did you use it? Yes, special occasions only

Do you have fine china now? Yes  Do you use it? Not yet! We will for special occasions, but I don't think it's dishwasher safe :S

  • My mom had some, and we usually only used it at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I've been buying her more pieces off ebay since her pattern is discontinued.

We put china on our registry and have quite a bit. We do use it, probably once every 2 weeks or so, usually for a weekend dinner.

  • We had fine china growing up, it came out at Christmas and Easter.  DH and I have our own set right now and we bring it out whenever we have company because we have so much of it.  Our friends down the road liked it so much it's the same pattern they registered for.  Now we have decided that sharing is fun and we can pool dishes if we need to for really big events.

Do you have fine china now?  Yes, totally wanted it and already have place settings for 6.  I just got another one for Christmas. Do you use it? Yes, a couple times already (We just got married March '09) but I would like to use it more.

  • Yes, my parents have a fine china set and we used it for special events, Christmas and Easter lunch/dinners.

We don't have a set of fine china. We do have a nice set of dishes and everyday stuff, but we use both fairly often.

We just didn't want to spend a lot of money on dinnerware that we would use 2-3 times a year.

  • We did NOT have any fine china.?

When I registered for my wedding, we opted for Denby white, which we use everyday. ?I wouldn't consider it fine china, and sometimes wish I had some. ?I think I'd use it. ?I use my china teacups! (which I have 20 or so)?

  • We had china growing up but never used it.

Now I have the same set (it belonged to my great grandmother) as we had growing up and now I never use it! lol

  • Did your family have fine china when you grew up?  Did you use it?

Yes we did but it was only used for special occasions like Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.

Do you have fine china now?  Do you use it?

No we don't have any fine china.  We don't host enough to have it, and we don't have anywhere to put it.  Maybe when we have a bigger place where we can do more entertaining we'll get some, but I doubt it.

  • No, but my mom did have fancy expensive silverware that she pulled out for special occasions. It looked funny next to our everyday plates and were such a pain in the a$$ to wash because they couldn't go in the dishwasher. The silverware was antique- it was my dad's mother's best friend's parents' and she gave it to my parents when they were married.

I don't have any special silverware or china, and I don't imagine I'll ever have any. I don't really care about that kind of thing. My mom has mentioned that I'll inherit her silverware one day, but if I do I'll probably just store it somewhere and it'll never see the light of day.

  • Did your family have fine china when you grew up?  Did you use it?

Yes we did and so did my grandma (in fact I think she had two or three sets).  And we did use on special occassions - sometimes just for Sunday dinner.  I always loved my moms when I was little.

Do you have fine china now?  Do you use it?

I do have fine china and silver.  I try to make a point of using it at special occassion not just holidays (eg. DH b-day etc)  It is expensive and it may break - but why else have it?

I know both my sisters aren't keen on it and I completely understand - it is a little traditional and if you don't like to be really formal it is expensive.

  • My mom has china that she got at her wedding. We used it for holidays.

I don't have fine china. I am getting my mom and grandma's passed down to me.

  • Did your family have fine china when you grew up?  Yes

Did you use it?  Yes, on holidays.

Do you have fine china now?  Nope, just my open stock Corelle dishes

  • Did your family have fine china when you grew up?  Yes.  My Mom and Grandmother both had the same pattern.

Did you use it?  Yes, we did use it on special occasions.

Do you have fine china now?  I don't but my Dad has since 'inherited' both my Mom and Gram's china so he has something like 16 settings of the same formal china and I thought he would give me one set for the wedding and he didn't  =(  I might have to ask for one soon because I was close to my Gram and I'm the only daughter so I kinda feel entitled (yeah, I said it!)

  • Did your family have fine china when you grew up?  Did you use it?

My mom didn`t but my Grandma did. It was brought out at holiday dinners.

Do you have fine china now?  Do you use it?

Nope, we don`t have anywhere to store it and we don`t entertain enough to justify it. Plus I am a klutz and I would be afraid of breaking a piece.

No, my parents only had their everyday set.

Do you have fine china now?  Do you use it?

Yeap, we have fine china. I use it at least half a dozen times a year. We just used it NYE when we had my parents over for dinner.

  • Yes, my parents had fine china when I was growing up

Yes, they used it a all the major holiday gatherings

No, we do not have any. We initially did register for some, but then I got home and took it off our registry. I just don't think its necessary. We have a nice set of everyday dishes that look great a holiday dinner tables anyways.
