s/o: decorating for other holidays

Someone (sorry, I forget who it was) mentioned yesterday that she decorates the house for Valentine's Day.  What other holidays, seasons, etc. do you guys decorate for?

I don't really do much decorating beyond Christmas stuff.  In the spring/summer I'll have some vases of flowers cut from our yard and in the fall I have a couple of stylized pumpkins I put out, but I don't go all out for any other season like some of the D&R ladies do.  Their houses look great all decked out for various holidays and seasons, but I think I'm too lazy to get into changing decor that often and having so much "stuff," even though I think it can look nice.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

Re: s/o: decorating for other holidays

  • I don't really decorate for any other season. I kind of do Christmas lite too. But I love the look of different decorations, my deterent is that I have a super teensy apt right now (but I'm looking at a place today!) and there's not a lot of room for any decor.

The only thing I do is to change out my photos/art in my living room. I get bored every once in a while so usually in the spring I move the art around. I don't know if you can consider that decorating or not. I think it's just boredom.

  • I have halloween and easter decor but rarely use it. I didn't decorate for Christmas this year either just because we were out of town!
  • I put a scarecrow up on our lightpost in the fall.  Other than that I usually just change the wreaths on the doors with the season.

  • My mom used to put stuff up when we were little (elementary school).

We didn't decorate our apartment much; just Halloween and Christmas. When we moved a got some fake leaves to put above the kitchen cabinets for autumn. I've never done anything in the spring or summer decoration-wise, so we'll see.

  • I have some autumn stuff that I put up...although this year I couldn't because Luka kept trying to eat it.  Ha ha ha.  I think that is it.
  • We have tons of seasonal decor thanks to my MIL buying stuff on clearance at Target whenever she finds a good deal.  I tend to forget to bring it out, which is too bad.  I always put out heart shaped tealight holders for Valentines Day dinner with H (we make a special meal at home rather than go out).

This is kind of embarrassing but I just realized that most of the seasonal decor rotation that I do is based on sports seasons.  I just packed away my H's terrible towels last week when the Steelers didn't make the playoffs, and I always bring out all of our Red Sox stuff for opening day.  Embarrassed

  • I have little things I put out for various holidays, but the only time I go all out decorating all over the house is Christmas.

  • The only other time besides Christmas that I put out lots of stuff is Halloween.
  • Valentine's Day (I'm the one that mentioned it). I have a few cheesy heart things for the walls, heart table linens (just bought them at Home Goods last week- shh, don't tell DH!), a few little heart-shaped plates and a heart wreath for the door. And we keep all the red candles I had for Christmas around.

Growing up, we went all out with Easter decorations, and now that we have a house, hopefully my parents will share some with me. In my condo I had a couple tiny baskets with glass or stone eggs and a few little bunnies and chicks.

Halloween has a lot of stuff.

Thanksgiving has a turkey wall hanging my mom made me.

And Christmas, of course. Currently we don't have many non-tree Christmas decorations, but I'm quite sure we'll accumulate a lot in a couple years.

I love crafting, so I think that's why I like to decorate for holidays- it gives me an excuse to make stuff. Soon I want to make some Valentine's Day garlands (just glittery red and pink and silver things, a la Martha Stewart)

  • I don't decorate for any holiday!
  • I have dorr hangers for Halloween and for Thanksgiving, but I don't have much decor. for other holidays. I know that I want to get more to make it fun for DS when he gets older.
