Shoe, Ali, MT, Bitsy, Pink, and any other mommies in the making

I totally get wanting to have your nurseries very cute, this was something that stressed me out to no end, with my procrastinating DH.  But wanted to warn you in advance, no matter how cute you make it, this is what it'll look like in one year (see pics below).  Toys will overtake your world.  People will give you large chairs that "must be kept indoors" as gifts.  Stuffed animals out the @$$.  And somewhere, deep underneath the chaos, you will see a hint of what that cutesie nursery used to be.  Unless you're lucky enough (unlike me) to have a play room.  Sigh.  Enjoy it while it's cute, ladies!!  hehe!

Oh, P.S.  Your bathroom, living room, kitchen, car, virtually everything you own will also look like a toy store, as these things have a way of taking over your life!

  • I'm in denial about this.

Although every so often I look around at our house where everything currently has a place and wonder WTH I'm going to put a swing, playmat, bouncer, etc MUCH LESS 1,001 toys.  I foresee most toys ending up in a rubbermaid tote in our attic and rotated out every few months so there's always something "new" to play with.

Me too. I am not a fan of stuffed animals, and I will be the mean mommy who gives them away to goodwill before the child is attached to it. I don't mind a few, but I just can't handle a lot of them. Mother of the year right here, lol.

  • haha

yeah....we bought MAYBE 5% of those toys!  People LOOOOVE to give stuffed animals.  They also seem to love to give things that have one million pieces.  a 150 piece food set for the toy kitchen?  That means 150 tiny things I'm stepping on in the middle of the night!

  • In fact, in the picture where you can see Barney poking out of the top of a bin?  That WHOLE bin is stuffed animals.  And Elise loves them so I don't have the heart to throw them away.  She plays with all her toys, all day long.

  • We're going to try and do a separate toy room. The nursery is TIINY and we don't want to move them upstairs till 3 or so.

  • 2 words: Toy Box.

    also, cute baskets.

the living room has the big toy box and a basket.

my bedroom has a small basket of toys

the bathroom has a large plastic collander with her bath toys in it

her bedroom has 2 big baskets (purple plastic bins with wheels) that hold her kitchen stuff and dolls.

it is good to have some sort of organization since each room ends up with toys in it.

Ali, i agree with the stuffed animals! ha! the only ones i keep are the disney ones like her Minnies and Mickeys. most of the rest have been donated.

  • yeah, Elise's closet is full to the brim of baby stuff that needs to go into the attic - old baby carseat, swing, clothes, etc.  Once that stuff is out of there, I'm going to get James to make her a big toy box with no lid, so it can fit in her closet on the floor and be closed off when I want her room to look nice!

  • LMAO! This is SO true.

I am the biggest neat freak and swore this wouldn't happen to me. Guess what....IT DID!

You get so tired of picking everything up and there are nights I go to bed and there are still toys all over the living room. I'm just too tired!

Also, the amount of toys is OUT of control. We were sort of lacking in the toy department, and then christmas happened. We are currently trying to figure out some way to contain this madness. Looking for storage options that aren't ugly!! We aren't having much luck!
