Since this will be my 1st year filling being married, I have a few questions.
First off is it better to file together or separately?
2nd is, I will have 2 W2 forms, does it matter that one of them will have my maiden name on it? My last job I left right before we got married. Do you have to send something saying you got married or they know since they have your ss#? Thank you ladies!

Re: Tax Question
it was better for us to file separately. when we filed together it bump us up and we had to pay money. when we did separate, we got money. try both ways hun.
i had some with my maiden name and that was fine. GL!
First off is it better to file together or separately? This is basically impossible to answer correctly without trying it each way to compare your return/amount owed. If you use something like turbo tax to do your return, it should do it both ways to figure out your best route. I think most people (at least our age) wind up filing joint, but you can't say what's better for sure without testing it each way.

Do you have to send something saying you got married or they know since they have your ss#? Thank you ladies! No, you don't need to do anything. It goes by your ssn. Since I was married in Jan but filed in April, all my forms were under my maiden name but I had changed to married name before filing so nothing matched. It was not a problem.
