Switching from Estrogen to Progesterone?

Have any of you done this? Like 'the pill' to the 'mini pill'?

I was on Loestrin 24 Fe for 4 years and I loved it. Unfortunately I have a blood clotting disorder so the estrogen is a no-go. I had Mirena (progesterone IUD) put in a few days and ever since I've felt bummed out and depressed.

Any experience with switching over? I usually felt a little depressed when I was on the placebo pills, but this feels worse. I can't motivate myself to do anything productive.

Re: Switching from Estrogen to Progesterone?

  • I switched from the Ring to the Mirena IUD and had some issues for about 2-3 months. My Dr. warned me that my body was adjusting to different horomones and getting off estrogen so that my mood swings were normal. It took about 3 months to feel normal, so hang in there it was worth it.. best bc I've ever had!!!

  • I switched from a regular pill to the Depo shot due to SEVERE migrains from the extra estrogen.  Last October I got the 3 year Implanon implant which is progesterone only.  I have noticed that I am more emotional and slightly depressed.  I started taking a lose dose of Lexapro which has helped but it really just takes a few months for your body to get adjusted.

  • Thank you so much for your inputs! I was beginning to think I was going crazy. I'm feeling a lot better than I was the first few days and hope I get back to normal in the next few months. If not, I'll keep Lexapro in mind.

    Thanks again!
