GlenLake

I have been reading thru older posts and wanted to let you know about my lasiks, but figured your post may be too old for you to see.

I also had the custom lasik done in 2008, which was recommended by my dr due to the vision, but also the astigmatism and he said it would help me see better at night.  The only regret I have is that I didn't do it sooner!  I think back to being able to see during times you can't wear contacts or glasses - like when snorkling on my honeymoon!  It is seriously the best thing I have done for myself.

I had a little bit of itchy eyes that day after my surgery and some sensitivity to light.  But basically, after the procedure I went home and napped on and off , woke up around dinner and was fine.  My mom drove me and on the way home she stopped by my grandma's house and was trying to show me the tree damage from the snow storm and I remember the bright white snow being so bright I could hardly open my eyes.

One thing is I wish I had known what I would have needed before the surgery.  They gave me the antibiotic eye drops but I had to go to the store on my way home to get the rewetting single dose drops and that is fun with lovely sunglasses on, haha.  So maybe find out what he will be given and what he needs and get them ahead of time if possible.

I worked the next day and I work in a pharmacy - so bright lights, dry air, and staring at the computer.  I was perfectly fine and wore a wrist watch that beeped so that I would remember to put in my drops and not get distracted.  I never had any discomfort ever and my vision in 20/20 and 20/15.  Even now, 3 yrs later, I see things like the leaves on the trees and just think, wow so beautiful and am so thankful for the vision.  And my vision wasn't bad before - like I wouldn't drive without contacts/glasses, but I often worked without them bc the glasses gave me headaches and the contacts would dry out.  Oh, and he will love seeing the alarm clock in the morning!  I used to feel like a jerk bc I would think people thought I was ignoring them or too self involved to say hello, but it really was just that their face was blurry until they got close to me.

Re: GlenLake

  • Thank you SO much for taking the time to write that! We love hearing all the positive reviews! It's a bit scary at first since someone's taking a laser to your eye, KWIM? :)

The drops thing was a great point! They actually already told us what we need so we're stocking up this weekend. But great point because some docs may not let you know beforehand and sunglasses in a store would look awesome haha

Thank you again - it's a week from today and I know he's soooo excited (we both are!) and like I said all these positive things and helpful hints have allowed us to better prepare. :)

  • jnk -

Totally butting in here, but where in Rochester did you have yours done?  I've been considering it lately b/c I only wear glasses (my eyes are really sensitive and I have a hard time with contacts).  My insurance won't cover it, so I'm trying to research a bit and find a good doctor who isn't too $$$.
