Wedding Albums

An album through our photog starts at $700.  I would really really like one but that is extremely expensive.  I'm affraid I will regret it if we don't get it.  I know you can make albums/books online through different websites but I want a really nice one like the photogs make with the thick pages and nice cover.

My question is: Is it worth getting the nice album through our photog or not and why?

Re: Wedding Albums

  • I didnt get one through the photographer.  I made one on mypublisher, the quality was ok imo.  I do love mpix.com 's quality of prints so their books would probably be really nice!  We look at our photo album maybe once a year.  Our photographer also gave us a print of every photo he took that day, so I put those in albums as well.
  • I would suggest making one yourself. My photographer recommended:

We have ordered all our wedding photos through this site and they came out wonderful! I think you could make one just as nice for a fraction of the price :)

Do you have all your wedding images?

  • I agree with the pp's. I only got a photo album that had 4x6's prints in a nice leather album, but that came with our package (Robert Hogan). I made a couple scrapbooks of our wedding and thats it. I don't think its worth spending 700 on an album that you can create yourself online. Plus if you create it yourself online you can make sure everything is just the way you want it.

  • We do have all of our wedding images on a disk and on our computer.

I'll check this site out.  Thanks!

  • I have ordered prints and a hard cover books through mpix.com. The quality is has been amazing. They do have offer an assembled album, but we have not ordered one yet. We are still picking picture....As for the expensive album. I don't think now is really when you will appreciate it. 20 years from now is when you will really love having a nice album. I have not ordered ours yet, but I hope my nieces and nephews love looking at it as much as I love looking at all of my family's wedding pictures.
  • Julie - are you wanting an album with flush mounted pictures?  Or are you wanting one that the pictures are printed on the pages??  If you want printed, I'd look at Mpix.com.  If you want flush mounted...holla atcher gurl!!!  I'll help you find some nice albums and we can put something really nice together.  And it won't be anywhere near $700.
  • I'm in the minority and will say the professional albums are worth it IF your photographer puts together beautiful albums.  When I saw my photog's albums, I decided I needed one and so I opted for a more expensive package because they were just that good.  I consider myself to be pretty technologically saavy and artistic (was my yearbook editor in chief in hs) but I couldn't have done anything nearly as beautiful as what my photog did.  It really did a great job of telling the story of our day...guess that's why our photog called herself a "visual narrator"!

People that see our album absolutely love it!  I leave it on our coffee table shelf (which is glass so you can see it from above) and look at it every once in awhile while vegging on the couch.  It's definitely something I'll cherish for years to come.

  • Erin - I want one where the pictures are printed on the page.  If I remember right she offered a big album thick cover and thick pages and the pics were printed on the pages.
  • Picaboo has an option for the thick pages.  They're not cheap though, so unless you're great with design & photoshop I'd go with your photog.  Also, some places might not do an album unless you have a copyright release. I did do a regular Picaboo ablum for our moms with no problems but Sam's of all places refused to make prints for us.  For what it's worth we got all of our prints in 2 regular photo albums and we never did a fancy one for ourselves-and I'm ok with that.

I haven't used them, but may be a little less expensive than through your photographer, and you still get a nicely designed album.

I would go this route or go with mpix. This is our plan later this year when we can finally afford the album we want,

  • We are making our own with MyPublisher! We used it for our wedding guestbook and it turned out sooooo well! We were very happy!

  • We did MyPubplisher albums for our parents, and they came out nice. But, we did get the big, thick-paged, designed album from our photographer for us, and I totally think it was worth the cost. Everyone who has seen it raves about it. Our photog did some great layouts & treatments with the photos, and I love the leather cover (in our wedding color) and inset photo.
