Weird Question

Okay sorry if this has been posted before but I have a question concerning gyno visits..

I scheduled my check up today and after getting off of the phone realized that I will most likely be on my period on that day.

Should I reschedule?

Gyno visits are awkward enough without bleeding!

Re: Weird Question

  • yes reschedule because they can't do a pap smear if you are on period.  If visit is for a disease I would still reschedule, they can't see whats going on properly.
  • Okay thanks... I didn't know if it was possible for them to do it or not. If it was possible, I was really going to feel sorry for gynos.
  • they are awkward and this would def be a problem
  • I had a gyno appt when I was on my period, they said it wasnt a problem. But I would reschedule if possible for the awkward factor.

  • I would reschedule just because my lady business gets real sensitive that time of month. One time I went in on my last day, and was told I had to come back, so yeah, they can't do the smear with blood in the way.

Actually no, it's not. I've been on my period before and they told me not to reschedule--they even did my Pap.

  • I know of people who go on their period all the time and still get a pap. I would call and explain and see if the doctor has a preference. Unless you feel awkward...which I totally would
  • One thing to keep in mind is that the doctor will also be doing a breast exam, so if your breasts will be tender at that time, I'd reschedule so you don't have to make a second trip.

  • My doc said they can do a check up if you are on your period as long as it is a light day.  Personally I would reschedule.

  • My OBGYN told my mom to come anyway when she was on hers. She did the exam...but mom said it was too gross to handle! She'd never do it again.

     I'd change the date!

  • Yes, they can do the pap--the older tests from several years ago, no, but today's tests, yes.  Change the date if you'll feel uncomfortable, but the medical professionals have seen it all before, and should be fine with it.
