my CW makes me feel guilty about my lunch sometimes...

She packs carrots and two types of fruit in her lunch every day. Without fail. I probably don't eat two types of fruit in a month, I'm just not a huge fan.

I did actually bring carrots myself today, but I also brough leftover pasta with lots of cheese and meatballs. And I will probably grab something chocolate later for a snack.

I take small comfort in the fact that I at least eat better than my husband, who will run screaming at the sight of a vegetable (only a slight exaggeration).

What do you usually take for lunch? Or do you eat out?

Re: my CW makes me feel guilty about my lunch sometimes...

  • My work used to have a great cafeteria with tons of different things to choose from everyday. But they changed management last year and now it's kinda icky - except for the salad bar and the deli. So, I pack a Lean Cuisine every day and a piece of fruit.

I also keep some oatmeal, microwave popcorn, Girl Scout daisies (100 cal packs of cinnamon cookies), gummy bears and Slim Fast (chocolate) in my desk drawer for when I want a snack, but didn't pack one.

  • I just changed my lunch eating. I am now eating a lean cuisine for lunch and a spinach salad for a mid-afternoon snack. I wish I was the type of person that could eat anything I wanted.
  • this is a new years resolution for me. I need to pack my lunch more. I think I am just too lazy right now to do so. I am good once in a while, but lately I eat out way too much.
  • I go thru different kicks.  Right now I pack a can of soup, some type of cracker (cheez its, triscuit, wheat thins, etc) and try to do fruit, maybe yogurt for a snack or if I'm hungry.  Some times I good with fruit and veggies and other times I'm not.  I go weeks being good about eating a banana at least with breakfast then one day I jsut stop.  Right now I do one or two clemetines (sp?) we have a bag of them at home and I just grab them.  I have  a CW too that always is bringing in way healthy stuff especially fruits and veggies.

I too wish I could eat anything I want and I also go through spurts of getting lazy and eating out a lot.

  • Does your co-worker actually comment on your lunch or is that self-imposed guilt? Wink

What I eat depends on my mood.  I work at home so it really can vary by day.  I have three variations depending on how healthy I feel like eating.

On plan - Smart Ones frozen meal or ground turkey & bulgur casserole I make and freeze.

Off plan - Pretzels or crackers, some kind of dip, cheese cubes

Really Off plan - McDonalds Nuggets with lots of ranch and a sweet tea, of course!

  • I pack alot and sometimes get a small salad from the salad bar. I typically packl leftovers, fruit and either jello or yogurt.
  • I pack salads & leftovers.  If I pack fruits & veggies I'll eat them b/c I'm hungry.  I'm not as likely to eat them at home.  We have a mini fridge in the office so I put yogurt & string cheese in there.  I also bring in cans of fruit, soup, and instant oatmeal and leave them in my desk.

Has the CW actually made any comments?  If so I'd tell her to go to heck.  Othwerwise don't feel guilty.  She might go home and eat chips & Little Debbies for dinner!

Haha no, she doesn't say anything... it's just some days I wish I could be more like her! Have you heard seen those commercials about how when people around you make healthy choices, it influences you? (they talk about 'health footprint') I always think of her when I see those--and she does influence me in a good way (she's the one who got me going to yoga classes a year ago), but I just can't get myself to eat fruit regularly and I make myself feel guilty about that.

Have you tried dried fruits? Do you like those? They are a little more "snack foody" than fresh fruit.

  • I usually make meals on the weekends and separate into to go containers so all I have to do is grab them in the morning.  For lunch I try to always have a starchy carb, a fibrous carb, and lean protein. The majority of my plate is the fibrous and lean protein, the remainder starchy.  However, I am really diligent about nutrition and fitness as I have a load of hereditary risks working against me :(

So would LOVE to be a person who can eat whatever they want and maintain good health.  At least, I think this until I let myself eat junk and then I end up feeling sick and realize, "yes, this is why I don't eat ______ ."  For me, now that I eat much more healthfully, I can really tell a difference in how my body feels when I am eating properly.

  • I almost always pack my lunch and it's usually a Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice (which ever is on sale) or dinner leftovers.  I usually pack something else to snack on like a light yogurt, string cheese, or a piece of a fruit (usually apple, banana, orange, or strawberries...whatever is on sale and preferably in season).

I'm such a slow eater that when I eat with other people that's pretty much all that I can eat in the time it takes for them to finish their (usually larger) lunches.  DH eats like 2x as much as me and is done 2x as fast, too.  I guess I talk too much! Zip it!
