Clicky Poll: Opinions Please, Trip Next week

I'm surprising DH for his 30th birthday with a trip to Florida.

Yay! for the fact that he still doesn't know about it. Boo! for the fact that he keeps scheduling things that make me have to change our travel plans, LOL.

Our destination is a 13 hr drive. Originally we were going to leave early Sunday morning, get there that night. Dive on Mon & Tue, drive back on Wed, back to work on Thu.
Now, because of something he's scheduled, we can't leave until later on Sunday. So we're leaving Sunday, driving halfway down. Spending the night in Georgia. Finishing the trip on Monday. Diving Tue & Wed.

Return trip is TBA.

DH is already off on Thu & Fri, due to his weird firefighter shifts.
I only get 7 paid days off per year, so I'm taking M-W paid, whatever else I take off will be unpaid.[Poll]

  • If money isn't a big deal why rush and cram the trip.  Enjoy it and spend the time relaxing with you hubby.
  • Does he have to take work off too on Friday?  I agree - if the money isn't too big of a deal to you both stay and enjoy the trip!!

  • JMO, but this sounds really hectic to me rather than relaxing. Drive 13 hours to do 2 days diving (which is physically demanding as I understand it) to drive another 13 hours?  Even with the drives split, it sounds like it would be exhausting to me.

Any chance you can get a good deal on a last minute airfare?

I will say, as a suggestion, when we drove back from Georgia - we split the drive into 2 days. We've done this several times and splitting it was what we decided was best FOR US. But I told H after last time that after such a long drive, I needed to have something to look forward to at the end of the day to relax rather than just drive-sleep-drive-sleep. So we booked our split in Pigeon Forge at Wilderness in the Smokies Indoor Waterpark and ran around like kids for a good two hours after being on the road. H said it was one of my better ideas and that it kept the drive home from feeling really crappy. So - my suggestion is that you might want to find something fun to do in the middle of that drive.

  • Ditto trying to get airfare.  You may be able to find a decent deal from various airports around.  Try southwest too... you might drive a little but it'd be worth it.

Is it possible to "change" his scheduled plans?

I'd take an unpaid day on Friday (provided it's not a big financial hit) and make it more of a vacation.
