Re: ?Mamas & Mamas to Be: Weekly Check-in?
yay, thanks for keeping up with this MrsNJSwimmer!!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 34w1d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm feeling pretty good. I noticed a stretch mark under my belly button this morning - I was expecting them since I have some on my hips/boobs from puberty but it was still surprising to see the ugly red-ish line.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?leaving work in an hour for an appointment actually. Just the same old, same old. Weight, Blood Pressure, baby's heartbeat, pee in a cup routine.
**update - appt. went just as expected. Everything was great. Baby is still head down (would have been shocked if she said something else b/c the movements have been pretty consistent and I have been using the belly mapping method to keep track). The MW was pressuring me for a birth plan, I think she is secretly nervous that I won't show up at the hospital or something. So I guess I better work on that before my next appt.
(4) How did/are you preparing for birth mentally? Physically? mentally - I have read lots of books and continually re-affirm that birth is a natural process to myself daily. We are doing a natural childbirth class with a private doula in the area, the best part of the class is how much MH is learning. Physically - I do prenatal yoga, daily kegals, pelvic tilts, stretches, and walk, walk, walk! We also practice birthing positions in our class.
(5) When did/will you have your nursery ready by (how many weeks along)? our crib came super early and I refinished the dresser a long time ago but it was actually "finished" last weekend when I finally put ribbon ties on the wall hangings. Oh wait, I still need to hang up 2 more shelves.
(6) What is the one BR item that was your biggest priority? Meaning, not necessarily what was the most expensive, but what item were you willing to pay more than average for and get the best of because it was really important to you? (Crib, crib mattress, stroller, carseat, etc.)hmmm, I did research on all of it and always went with what I felt was best without breaking the bank. That said we haven't purchased anything ourselves but I'm still glad that I picked reasonably priced things.
I guess one thing I'm kind of picky about - the highchair (which we don't have yet). I am not a fan of the bright colors or cutesy cartoon ones (not like the baby can even see the pad it's sitting on anyways) and it is kind of hard to find a more "plain" one. One that folds down small is also important to me because we don't have a pantry or anything in case I want to put it away sometimes.
(7) Did/Will you find out the sex of the baby? Why or why not? we didn't. MH wanted to know at first, but was ok with not knowing by the time we had our ultrasound. We both agree that it's really exciting to still have that HUGE surprise to look forward to.
(8) Wearing the baby ? yay or nay? Why? If yay, what carrier do/will you use? Why? yay. especially since we are skipping an infant seat. I have 3 different carriers to try out. The sling was a gift so I don't know much about that one but the other 2 I researched a lot. They get great reviews and the ergo one is supposedly better and more comfortable for baby than most of the mainstream ones on the market.

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 29w2d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I am starting to feel slightly uncomfortable. My hip bones are a bit achy and the baby is now situating itself up against my rib cage. I'm happy that he/she is growing and moving around out of the breech position, though.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Next week for a regular appt. Ultrasound in 3 weeks, our first since the 3D "big one" at 18 weeks.
(4) How did/are you preparing for birth mentally? Physically? I read inspiring books to remind myself about the possibilities of natural child birth and try to surround myself with stories from women who have done it that way. I'm not opposed to drugs, but it scares me to think I NEED them. We are also starting birthing classes later this month, which I think will help me feel more prepared. Physically, I'm still pretty active -- we hike once a week and I go for walks a couple times a week. I try to do a lot of stretching, too.
(5) When did/will you have your nursery ready by (how many weeks along)? We just started working on it. We're picking paint on Friday. I don't think it'll be done until March.
(6) What is the one BR item that was your biggest priority? Meaning, not necessarily what was the most expensive, but what item were you willing to pay more than average for and get the best of because it was really important to you? (Crib, crib mattress, stroller, carseat, etc.) I thought a number of things were very important -- the breast pump, the crib/mattress, stroller and car seat. However, I made sure not to get overly concerned about having top-of-the-line or the newest, fanciest stuff. After reading up on safety and best buys, I usually went with mid-range, good quality items that were reliable but also economical. We tried to buy all the big stuff ourselves, so I think that helped us stick to practical buys. I don't care much about accessory items like bags, clothes, toys, coordinating prints/themes...
(7) Did/Will you find out the sex of the baby? Why or why not?We didn't. We wanted a big surprise.
(8) Wearing the baby ? yay or nay? Why? If yay, what carrier do/will you use? Why? Yep. I think it will be good for bonding and nurturing the baby. Plus, we like to be active and want baby to move around easily with us when we do things like hiking or walking our dog around the block. I have a Moby, a Dr. Sears sling and will purchase an Ergo.(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
I'm 31 weeks
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I'm feeling good for the most part. I'm now written out of work and now have the time and energy to exercise. So far I started swimming and stretching. I plan to do pre-natal yoga video's too.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
My next appointment is next Tuesday. That starts off a slew of appointments for the rest of my pregnancy. 2-3 a week! Not including chiropractic visits, birthing classes, or hospital tour.
(4) How did/are you preparing for birth mentally? Physically?
I'm in denial. I'm not letting myself think of it very much.
(5) When did/will you have your nursery ready by (how many weeks along)?
We're almost done cleaning out our extra bedroom and should start painting this weekend. I think we should have it done in the next few weeks, that means I'll be 33 weeks.
(6) What is the one BR item that was your biggest priority? Meaning, not necessarily what was the most expensive, but what item were you willing to pay more than average for and get the best of because it was really important to you? (Crib, crib mattress, stroller, carseat, etc.)
The carseat. That seems to be the most thought of item for me. It kills me that used car seats should not be used. Really? Something that will be in a landfill for a million years isn't safe enough to use and will expire so quickly? Grrrr. I'm sure that newer second hand car seats that have never been in an accident are just fine but I would feel terrible if something happened. So off I go fretting about which car seat is the safest...
(7) Did/Will you find out the sex of the baby? Why or why not?
We found out because I hate surprises. There is no way on earth I could go about not knowing. It's driving me crazy that my friend isn't finding out the sex of her baby!
(8) Wearing the baby ? yay or nay? Why? If yay, what carrier do/will you use? Why? I will try to wear the baby. Better for me & baby. Not sure yet what carrier/sling we will use. Interested to see what everyone else is using.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
37 weeks, 4 days
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Overwhelmed...just returned from my OB appt. and have scheduled an induction for next Wednesday 01.20.10. Baby is measuring 7 lbs. 8 oz. today (up from 6 lbs. 3 oz. last week) and is doing well, but my doc doesn't want me to go past 39 weeks because she's afraid the baby will get too big and that with my insulin-dependent gestational diabetes that my placenta is aging faster than someone who doesn't have GD and use insulin.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Next appt. is Monday morning. We'll check my cervix again (today it was 1.5 cm and not thin at all) and see if there's been any progress. At that point we'll discuss the induction process. I am hoping I am a candidate for cervadil, rather than cytotec, but right now my doc is leaning towards cytotec. I am also worried because my Bishop's Score right now is not favorable for an induction, which can mean that in all likelyhood it will progress to a c-section. I am trying to stay positive and keep my eye on the prize...finally holding Libby in my arms.
(4) How did/are you preparing for birth mentally? Physically?
I have eaten well and exercised throughout this pregnancy. So far I have gained 14 lbs. total. I have also stretched regularly to maintain flexibility, etc. I began reading pregnancy books when we were TTC and have continued to educate myself on pregnancy and birth throughout this year.
DH and I attended Bradley Birth Classes and have hired our instructor to be our doula (she's certified and also an RN). All of this has been in preparation to go totally unmedicated with little or no interventions. Being diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 28 weeks and then starting insulin at 30 weeks have been a total game changer. Now, my focus is trying to avoid a c-section and I am trying to mentally prepare for an induction and most likely, the need for an epidural and of course, the possibility that all of it can end up in a c-section.
(5) When did/will you have your nursery ready by (how many weeks along)?
We still need to add final decorative touches, but it us fully functional and ready for baby. Although we still don't have a baby monitor. DH doesn't think we need one, but I do. So we have to figure that out this weekend. We finished getting the majority of it together on Christmas Eve, since we were snowed in...so that was almost 33 weeks.
(6) What is the one BR item that was your biggest priority? Meaning, not necessarily what was the most expensive, but what item were you willing to pay more than average for and get the best of because it was really important to you? (Crib, crib mattress, stroller, carseat, etc.)
I wanted our baby's rug in the nursery to be 100% natural materials...so we paid a lot more for it (it's cotton and silk) than we would have if we went with an acrylic or synthetic-blend rug. Everything else has basically been a balance of chosing the best/safest item we can afford while still being frugal and many items have been purchased second-hand. Oh and I really, really wanted the Spa Baby Tub (aka Tummy Tub) which is 2-3x more regular bath bath tubs...so yeah...we got it.
(7) Did/Will you find out the sex of the baby? Why or why not?
We did. It was never a consideration not to...we are big planners and actually found out at 16 weeks that we were having a girl. I feel not only better prepared for her but also, in a way, really bonded with her because we've been calling her by name since the day we found out that she was a she.
(8) Wearing the baby ? yay or nay? Why? If yay, what carrier do/will you use? Why?
Yay. We made our own Moby-style wrap and plan to use it from the start (it's in my hospital bag). When she's older/bigger we plan to use an Ergo (still need to get one though). I believe in keeping baby close and I also like that I can breastfeed, etc. with her in the wrap and be hands free from time-to-time. I also am not a huge fan of the infant carseat/carrier being the main place a newborn spends his/her time (I call them "the bucket") and would prefer to have her in physical contact with me or DH instead. We will wear her most often and use the stroller/infant carrier from time to time.
(9) For TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing? Is there a good website for a primer on TTC for those of us who don?t understand the code? J

TTC/PG Blog | Mommy Blog
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
12 weeks, 3 days
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I announced that we are expecting at work today, that was kind of fun! I think a few people had started to suspect already.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
This Friday we have the nuchal translucency ultrasound. I'm a little nervous, but trying not think about it too much!
(4) How did/are you preparing for birth mentally? Physically?
Nothing really yet. I'd like to take a class, but haven't found any yet.
(5) When did/will you have your nursery ready by (how many weeks along)?
We started clearing the room out a little (it has MH's bikes now). We're going to look at furniture this weekend to get an idea of what we like.
(6) What is the one BR item that was your biggest priority? Meaning, not necessarily what was the most expensive, but what item were you willing to pay more than average for and get the best of because it was really important to you? (Crib, crib mattress, stroller, carseat, etc.)
I don't want to spend a fortune, but I know I'm going to be very picky about the stroller. We're both very tall, and a few of the strollers I tried out already have either too short of handles, or my long strides kick the bottom when I walk! Annoying! I walk a lot around the neighborhood to the store and such, so if I have to pay a little more to get what I want, that's okay.
(7) Did/Will you find out the sex of the baby? Why or why not?
Definitely!!! We can't wait! Neither one of us deals well with the unknown, and the unknown territory of having a family is scary enough! At least we'll know what gender to expect, and that will help me visualize things better.
(8) Wearing the baby ? yay or nay? Why? If yay, what carrier do/will you use? Why? I'd like to try. I haven't actually tried anything out yet, but I like the look of a Moby.
Wow! That's so exciting.....next week!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
35w6d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Tired! And awkward. I'm bumping into things because I forget how big my belly is. Biggest news is that I had my first internal this week and I am 1.5 cm dilated & 50% effaced. Woohoo! Guess all those BH are actually doing something. Hoping this means she'll come a little early (even though it could mean absolutely nothing)...I'm hoping for 38 weeks!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Next week. I'm going weekly now.
(4) How did/are you preparing for birth mentally? Physically?
I think I'm in denial, too. Haha. I really haven't been doing anything. We went to a childbirth class and I do some stretching and yoga exercises. I'm not really freaked out about childbirth, but maybe I should be. I'm more worried about the lack of sleep once baby comes home.
(5) When did/will you have your nursery ready by (how many weeks along)?
We're still working on the little things but we picked up our glider/recliner today so all the major pieces are in place. Now just have to decorate the walls.
(6) What is the one BR item that was your biggest priority? Meaning, not necessarily what was the most expensive, but what item were you willing to pay more than average for and get the best of because it was really important to you? (Crib, crib mattress, stroller, carseat, etc.)
We didn't pay more than average for anything because we went for the best rated, best value items. But the carseat was the most important purchase since you can't go home without it. Got it checked out at AAA yesterday to make sure it was installed properly. We're all ready to go!
(7) Did/Will you find out the sex of the baby? Why or why not?
We did. I'm too impatient and too much of a planner not to know.
(8) Wearing the baby ? yay or nay? Why? If yay, what carrier do/will you use? Why?
Definitely. I want to get into a routine of walking everyday to lose the baby weight and because our dog really needs the exercise. We have a Moby right now and I plan to get an Ergo. Also want a sling, but I think I'll wait until baby is here to get one.
18 weeks
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I feeling good except I don't sleep very well. I wake up with my hips aching or one of my hands asleep. I did get a pillow to put between my knees and that has helped some of the last few days.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Big on is the 26th FINALLY
(4) How did/are you preparing for birth mentally? Physically?
Nothing yet don't really want to think about it yet
(5) When did/will you have your nursery ready by (how many weeks along)?
Were not having one but I want to have crib ready by 30-35 weeks due to the fact that I have an 18% higher chance of going into labor early
(6) What is the one BR item that was your biggest priority? Meaning, not necessarily what was the most expensive, but what item were you willing to pay more than average for and get the best of because it was really important to you? (Crib, crib mattress, stroller, carseat, etc.)
Don't know yet I am just not starting to read the baby bargins book and trying to put together a list to stuff to look at when we go to BRU to see what we like
(7) Did/Will you find out the sex of the baby? Why or why not?
We are finding out because I REALLY hate surprises and there is no way I could go another 20 weeks without not knowing.
(8) Wearing the baby ? yay or nay? Why? If yay, what carrier do/will you use? Why? I am going to try to wear the baby when I can. Haven't decided what we will use. I want to see what everyone else is using. I know Malia had a great list that I wish I had saved and I have a friend that is going to give me a ergo... I think that is what she told me??
wow, exciting! It will all work out, I know GD has really interfered with your natural childbirth plans, but the most important thing will be your healthy baby.
I think you mentioned you know an acupuncturist, maybe you could go in every day (or whatever they recommend) from now until next week? Also check with your doula to see if she has any recommendations for a good naturopath that has some experience in labor induction - my friend swears by homeopathy for the end of the 3rd tri. I know your options are somewhat limited in OK, but I'm sure there has to be someone that could help. (all of this would be with doctor's permission, of course). Maybe if these things help you will be more likely to progress as required with the augmentation of an induction.
Brooke turns 8 months this week!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Feeling good... nothing new to report
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Next appointment for Brooke is at our 9 month checkup
(4) How did/are you preparing for birth mentally? Physically?
Honestly, I didn't prepare. The way I looked at it was it was something I was going to have to face, whether or not I wanted to and I just wanted to get it over with while maintaining as much dignity as possible (which flew out the window once you're spread eagle in front of DH and a few nurses)
We did attend a breastfeeding, infant care course before she came, but didn't go through any Lamaze classes or whatnot.
(5) When did/will you have your nursery ready by (how many weeks along)?
We had her nursery 'ready' a few weeks before she was born. Then we moved in October... now we're back to square one.
(6) What is the one BR item that was your biggest priority? Meaning, not necessarily what was the most expensive, but what item were you willing to pay more than average for and get the best of because it was really important to you? (Crib, crib mattress, stroller, carseat, etc.)
We got a decent stroller, but my mom paid for it, so I'm not sure. We didn't buy anything extravagent... ?
(7) Did/Will you find out the sex of the baby? Why or why not?
Yes. We are too nosy and curious to not know! It's not for the "planning" reason most people want to find out-- I just couldn't wait 9 months!
(8) Wearing the baby ? yay or nay? Why? If yay, what carrier do/will you use? Why?
Bought a Moby, but Brooke wanted nothing to do with it. We basically just carried her a ton... it was a great workout for me to lose the baby weight!
(9) For TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing? Is there a good website for a primer on TTC for those of us who don?t understand the code? J
(10) For mommies: What kind of help was the MOST helpful in the first few weeks after the baby was born?
People bringing food was probably the most helpful. Other than that, we didn't need too much help although there were a lot of visitors coming over just to carry the baby

Sandy, thank you for taking over the weeky check in!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
She turned 2 months old yesterday!!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I'm feeling great! I got 7 hours of sleep last night!
in general, she is still sleeping 5-6 hrs straight each night which I am very happy about!
little A got her shots and did pretty good, no fever or soreness afterwards. she now weighs 10 lb 6 oz (50th percentile) and 23 inches (75th percentile) - looks like she may not be so short like her mama is!
She has now rolled from back to tummy twice now... and she continues to babble constantly when she is awake... she is just barely starting to appreciate her play mat, looking around at everything. she's not loving her swing yet, but sometimes I can put her in it and it will calm her down.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
not until 4 months - more vaccines
(4) How did/are you preparing for birth mentally? Physically?
I just read up on the birthing process... I already knew ahead of time that I wanted an epidural so I was counting on that for pain relief. I didn't take any birthing classes or anything like that, though.
(5) When did/will you have your nursery ready by (how many weeks along)?
hmmm, can't remember exactly when we had it done but it was around 36 weeks I think.
(6) What is the one BR item that was your biggest priority? Meaning, not necessarily what was the most expensive, but what item were you willing to pay more than average for and get the best of because it was really important to you? (Crib, crib mattress, stroller, carseat, etc.)
probably the car seat, due to safety concerns.
(7) Did/Will you find out the sex of the baby? Why or why not?
yes, we are type A people and needed to know so we could plan ahead!
(8) Wearing the baby ? yay or nay? Why? If yay, what carrier do/will you use? Why?
yes, I use the maya wrap - it's simple and easy and is good for all sizes/stages. plus I could get a size medium and both MH and I could use it (only difference in sizes is the length of the "tail")
(9) For TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing? Is there a good website for a primer on TTC for those of us who don?t understand the code? J
(10) For mommies: What kind of help was the MOST helpful in the first few weeks after the baby was born?
having my mom there to keep the house tidy and to cook all our meals. cooking was the last thing on my mind! I was concerned with getting some sleep and being the milk machine
BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers...link to your chart!
I love it when she smiles, but it's SO hard to capture it in a photo b/c it's always for just a split second - I got lucky this time and got a half smile

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
Week 35.5. Maya is 2 years, 5 mths (almost)
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Broken out in an itchy rash on thighs, underside of belly etc. Googled it and apparently there's a rash pregnant women get (can't think of the name right now) that disappears after birth. Also, it's REALLY hot here right now so it COULD be some kind of heatrash *shrugs*
Baby was transverse (laying sideways) at appointment last week so I'm hoping he/she eventually goes headdown when it counts so that I don't have a C/S. If bub is transverse at the due date/when I go into labour, it will be an immediate C/S.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Next Wednesday. Will do the swab test for GBS then.
(4) How did/are you preparing for birth mentally? Physically?
Warning, this is lonnnnnnng lol.
When I was pregnant with Maya, I read 'Birth Skills' (http://www.jujusundin.com/) which was awesome.
I also took a birth class, independant of my hospital, which was held once a week over four weeks http://www.birtheducation.com.au/home.htm.
One of the guest speakers, Rhea Dempsey, gave a very powerful class where she talked about labour and birth and the different stages a woman goes through during it all. I think, out of everything I ever read/heard, her lessons really helped me out the most and sunk in.
For example, she went through all the emotions/physical feelings/how you're likely to be acting etc for each stage. Then she got to the 'transition stage'. She explained how THIS stage is where the labouring woman tends to lose it and want to throw in the towel and starts hollering for drugs.
Then she smiled and said "Oh THIS is MY favourite stage (she's also a doula)...because this is where I lean in and whisper in your ear "You're almost there. Your baby is almost here. This means you're in the home stretch sweetheart....hold on a little longer..."
She then explains this is followed by a 'Rest & Be Thankful' stage, lasting about 20 minutes where the mama's pain subsides and she goes into a kind of 'dreamland', where she starts to relax and snooze. This is right before pushing.
It helped me when I was in the Transition Stage because her words came back to me and I thought "Oh this is BAD....BUT it means I'm in the homestretch!" Which meant I burrowed deep and took each contraction at a time. Each time a contraction hit I thought "Oh, I want drugs....but I'll get through this contraction first...and then I'll ask" but when the contraction passed, I thought "Ok, no...I won't ask for drugs...I can deal with this...." until I reached the 'Rest" stage and then I was all good.
Sorry, that's long. I thought it might help someone out there lol.
Take something to squish, like a stress ball. Take a tennis ball and have someone roll it on your back. Go through with your husband various ways to take your mind off the pain (have him 'take you hiking' in your mind, where each contraction represents a hill and he talks you through walking up each one etc).
I read a sign over the bed over and over, analysing every word and every curve of each letter. My MIL also made me tap, with my finger, the tune of 'Jingle Bells' lol. Just remember, when a contraction hits, preoccupy your mind with something else.
Walking around helps (gotta love gravity to draw that baby out, it's your best friend) and also, leaning over a fit ball or laying belly first into a beanbag (with some weight on your knees helping) is good too. That's where I was when Maya was born.
So many women are terrified of labour and the pain it brings. When it comes to labouring without pain relief, it might sound 'hippy'ish' but, think to yourself "This is a good pain. This is a working pain. It's bringing my baby out to me". Yeah, I know...it sounds wanky. However, I think the thing that made a huge difference when it came to getting through it without drugs was that I approached it with a positive mindset and not a fearful one.
At the end of the day, a healthy baby is all that matters. IF you have no complications during labour and IF you want a drug-free birth, read as much as you can to prepare yourself mentally and figure out ways to cope with contractions.
I don't wanna sound preachy or know-it-all, I really don't mean it that way. I just found ways that worked for me, was lucky to have a straightforward birth and figure what I learned in the process might be of help to someone else.
(5) When did/will you have your nursery ready by (how many weeks along)?
Bub is rooming in with us. Maya has her own room. We still need a couple of things however.
The bassinette that Maya slept in for the first 3-4 mths of her life is still here and we thought we'd just use that at first but we can't get the bassinette material (all that frilly nonsense that I can't think of the word for right now lol) off. As the bassinette has been sitting around collecting dust for the past 2 years, I don't feel comfortable putting a newborn in it without having washed the covers.
So, we're looking into getting either an Amby baby hammock or a Hushamok baby hammock. Might hire one first to see how Nugget likes it.
(6) What is the one BR item that was your biggest priority? Meaning, not necessarily what was the most expensive, but what item were you willing to pay more than average for and get the best of because it was really important to you? (Crib, crib mattress, stroller, carseat, etc.)
Stroller, definitely. We have the Swallow Beema Q http://www.babyco.com.au/catalog/product.asp?pID=21&c=14536 and it was seriously a kickass pram. I am mourning having to give up for a double pram. If Swallow Beema Q made double prams, I'd be going with them again.
Also, I'd have to say my breast pump (Medela Electric Swing) and my Ergobaby carrier.
(7) Did/Will you find out the sex of the baby? Why or why not?
Nope, another surprise.
(8) Wearing the baby ? yay or nay? Why? If yay, what carrier do/will you use? Why?
Yay. I need to get a sling for when he/she is a newborn but will be going back to my ErgoBaby (god, I love that thing) when he/she is a little bigger.
(10) For mommies: What kind of help was the MOST helpful in the first few weeks after the baby was born?
People cooking for me (MIL and my husband).
Would have appreciated hiring someone to come and clean the house once or twice a week too, if we had the money. It's well worth it as it means you get to rest/sleep when the baby sleeps and not worry too much about housework as the house isn't that messy.
BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers...link to your chart!
Get ready for the HUGENESS! (I think the dress is helping make me look huge too though lol...).
For comparison sake, here's me at 35 weeks with Maya (big difference eek)
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm feeling...swollen. My new name will be Cankles Galore. Seriously, you should see them. Epic.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Jan 19. Nothing exciting, just a checkup - although since it's at the high risk clinic, it probably will involve a very quick ultrasound, just to check in with the boys and make sure they're still doing OK.
(4) How did/are you preparing for birth mentally? Physically? Honestly? I'm not. That's probably terrible, isn't it? I'm going into this whole thing with a very uncharacteristic (for me) "what will be, will be" attitude. Since I have a 50% chance of needing a C-section, I'm very much just going to take things as they come. Probably won't be helpful when I'm freaking out during labor, but it's working for now lol.
(5) When did/will you have your nursery ready by (how many weeks along)? Ummm...not sure. We're slowly starting to get stuff together now, but we still have a long way to go. Ideally I'd like to have it finished by around 30-32 weeks, at least as far as painting and furniture goes - the little odds and ends can take a bit longer.
(6) What is the one BR item that was your biggest priority? Meaning, not necessarily what was the most expensive, but what item were you willing to pay more than average for and get the best of because it was really important to you? (Crib, crib mattress, stroller, carseat, etc.) Our stroller. You all know that saga! Everything else we're going budget with, but I REALLY wanted that fabu stroller, because a good double stroller is hard to find.
(7) Did/Will you find out the sex of the baby? Why or why not? Hells to the yes! Why? Oh...because we just wanted to know lol. I don't put much truck with the whole, "But don't you want to be surprised?" thing...I was still surprised. Just 20 weeks earlier.
(8) Wearing the baby ? yay or nay? Why? If yay, what carrier do/will you use? Why? Yay, to a certain extent - we'll wear them in slings at least for the first month or so (until my mom arrives with the stroller lol), and probably part of the time thereafter. However, it will obviously be limited to the times when Ben and I are going somewhere together, as I won't be able to wear them both at once. I'm also really interested to read everyone else's responses because I'm looking for some sling recommendations (I know Malia will have some lol).
The only time we've used the carseat is for actual trips in the car. We've only used the stroller a couple times also - but it's really been too cold outside to take him for walks. I love my Moby (although DH makes fun of it!)!
you're welcome
and yes, it;s hard for me to capture the smiles too for some reason!!
Jaylee just turned 7 months this week
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Jaylee is crawling all over the place now and can pull herself up. I woke up the other morning and she was standing up in her crib smiling at me.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
I have an appt with my dr. next week. I've been depressed lately and kinda feeling like I have no control so just going in to see if I am suffering from postpartum.
(4) How did/are you preparing for birth mentally? Physically?
We took a birthing class at the hospital, I wish I had taken a breastfeeding class. I don't know if I mentally prepared myself for the birth. It was just something I was going to need to face in order to see my baby girl.
(5) When did/will you have your nursery ready by (how many weeks along)?
we had the nursery ready when i was 38 weeks.
(6) What is the one BR item that was your biggest priority? Meaning, not necessarily what was the most expensive, but what item were you willing to pay more than average for and get the best of because it was really important to you? (Crib, crib mattress, stroller, carseat, etc.)
Her carseat and her crib were the most important things to use. We researched alot and were willing to splurge a little more to insure that LO was safe.
(7) Did/Will you find out the sex of the baby? Why or why not?
Yeps we were not willing to wait. My FIL had always wanted a girl so he really wanted to know before everyone else what we were having. It was also partly because we wanted to somewhat be ready/prepared.
(8) Wearing the baby ? yay or nay? Why? If yay, what carrier do/will you use? Why?
Yay! We had a sling in the very beginning and Jaylee could take it or leave it. But we got an Ergo at 2 months and it is the BEST THING EVER!!!!!!! I can actually get things done. After having the Ergo and loving MH just had to try it. I hated having to readjust it after he wore it and am currently looking into something else. Tried the Becco but it seemed so much more complicated to put on. Now looking into a Baby Hawk.
(10) For mommies: What kind of help was the MOST helpful in the first few weeks after the baby was born?
My mom and James would watch her so I could catch some shut eye (even if it was only for 20 minutes) also a few friends came by to help clean the house, make dinner, wash the laundry and I am forever greatful to them for that.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 13 weeks
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? feeling fine
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Jan. 26
(4) How did/are you preparing for birth mentally? Physically? Right now I'm still having problems wrappng my head around a growing waistline, so I don't know what I'm going to do mentally to prepare. Physically? I'm walking 30 minutes a day every day.
(5) When did/will you have your nursery ready by (how many weeks along)? WE aren't having a "nursery"
(6) What is the one BR item that was your biggest priority? Meaning, not necessarily what was the most expensive, but what item were you willing to pay more than average for and get the best of because it was really important to you? (Crib, crib mattress, stroller, carseat, etc.) carseat
(7) Did/Will you find out the sex of the baby? Why or why not? Yes, we want to know...we are planners
(8) Wearing the baby ? yay or nay? Why? If yay, what carrier do/will you use? Why? I'm looking at the moby...it seems the most comfortable hold.
