Double Facebook Account Fail
I thought the easiest way to handle getting FB friend requests from co-workers was to set up a second "professional" FB account. Turns out I'm too lazy to maintain two accounts, so I deleted my professional account. If we're not FB friends anymore, that's why. You should be able to find me on the FB Hawaii Knotties group page though.
Re: Double Facebook Account Fail
I didn't even think of this! i have a few coworkers who friended me...and i just gave in and "accepted" them... I figure they can see my personal stuff if they want. now, if it was a coworker i didn't know that well, it might be a different story.
i thought you were going to say that FB found out and suspended the 2nd account

Yeah, in theory I don't mind coworkers seeing my personal stuff, but my boss expects me to maintain a certain image around here -- because we're the "legal team." I don't think he would appreciate others in our office seeing my profanity-laced status updates or pictures of me with blue hair in a tutu at Burning Man.
I'm FB friends with a couple of my coworkers, but only the ones that I'm genuinely friends with - for the rest, I just politely decline since I'm too lazy to keep a second account lol.
You do have to be careful with FB and work though...a coworker friend of mine once posted something about another coworker on FB (not specific or cruel, just something like, "Grrrr, R is really driving me crazy today!" and only using the person's first name, which unfortunately is rather unusual and thus could only be about one person), but a third coworker saw the post and reported it to HR, getting my friend in trouble. Apparently it can be considered slander or something.
Yikes! Even though I never post person-specific gripes on FB, I'm not even going to start down the slippery slope: no work friends on FB, period. It will just be easier for me to maintain a bright-line rule. I'm sure once I explain, they'll understand.
there's nothing like seeing part of your legal team with blue hair and a tu-tu! lol!
I think you're smart for keeping co-workers off your f/b account. Apparently some of my co-workers have got in trouble for things they have said on f/b that were work related. They also got caught when a bunch of them called in sick and went to the river and posted the pics.
I have ONE friend who is a good friend that also works here but I've tested out my page to make sure the other people she is friends with from work can't see my status updates or any of my pics. I have everything hidden that I can, I don't even come up in a search because I don't want to get any requests :P
You know you can allow certain people to only see certain aspects of your page right? Like if you create a group called coworkers then set privacy settings for that group more restricted you won't need two accounts....
