We're in the hospital with him. His appetite didn't pick up today and he basically wanted to sleep all day. So we went to the doctor and he saw how labored Declan's breathing was and wanted him admitted. So here we are. He had a chest x-ray and has the start of pneumonia (sp?) and an ear infection. Luckily no bronchitis as well. The nurses tried to start an IV and tried 4 times with no luck. The poor guy was nearly hoarse from screaming in pain.
I'm hoping we'll only be here until tomorrow but probably until Friday.
He sure is a trooper though. MH brought him lots of toys to play with so he's having a blast. And of course he's having fun flirting with all the nurses that come in!
Re: Update on Declan
Oh no, poor little guy! I feel so bad for him and I hope that he gets better really really soon.
Let me know if you need anything!
How are you holding up?
I'm so sorry you guys are going through this. Although, I have to admit, Declan looked really good and CALM in the pic you sent last night. I know he's miserable but he looked like quite the little trooper just taking it all in stride.
I hope YOU are doing ok.
Yes he really has been in great spirits through everything (except trying to get the IV). He played with the cord connected to his toe for his oxygen levels for about 30 mins. So he's making the best of it
My poor husband wanted to stay with us so bad but I know he'd just sit here and worry all night so I sent him home and to work today. I doubt he'll get much done since he's already called me 3 times and it's only 7:30 to see how we're doing. I convinced the nurses to put a bed in the room with Declan so I didn't have to sleep on a chair or anything. So I'm doing fine (minus the fact that I have a horrible sinus headache).
There are 4 other little babies on the floor with the same thing as Declan. We're all isolated to our rooms since RSV is extremely contagious. But I heard one of the babies crying and coughing last night. The nurse told me she's only 1 month old and is having a tough time battling the virus. I am thankful Declan's immune system is more mature and he's able to battle the virus better then he would have if he was younger.
I have my computer so I'll keep you ladies posted as the day goes on. I'll probably be on when Declan's napping trying to pass the time
Oh no, poor little guy! I will keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers. I hope they get an IV in him and you are able to leave once he's better.
Can they not find a good vein? When David needed his IV, they put this topical treatment on his skin for 20 minutes before they put the IV in to dull the pain. Like novicane (sp?) for your skin, minus the needle. Maybe ask if they have that before they start doing it again.
