I hate car trouble.

So We've had one car for a week, just found out it'll be 500 buckaroos to fix my car. It's a POS, but drivable. We're buying a new car this summer, probably Julyish. I just wish we could do it now and be done with it all. Argh, not a good start to the day.

Re: I hate car trouble.

  • Boo, I hate car trouble too :-( Just look to the light at the end of the tunnel, your new car this summer!

  • I had a car for a few days and within a month, had to pay almost $2000 to get it fixed. Granted it was my grandmother's and hadn't been driven in a while since she got a new car, and it just needed some TLC after so many months after being idle. Since then, no major problems (I love my Camry!)

What kind of car are you looking to get this summer?

  • We just replaced dh's car a few months ago (which is part of the reason why we're waiting until the summer to do mine) and got a Hyundai Sonata which I love love love. We might even buy another one :) I like camry's a lot too, something in that neighborhood anyway of size and safety. What do you think of your camry?

  • I hate spending money on car repairs too.  Luckily I have a gear head for a DH who can at least tell me if a repair is really needed or not.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

You are lucky! DH doesn't even know what a wrench looks like :)

I LOVE the camry. It's actually a '96, apparently the last model where Toyota made the best engines. It runs like a dream. When I got it in 2006, it only had 88,000 miles on it. I'm hoping to get the 300,000 miles out if that apparently other camry owners have been able to get.

I drove a Hyundai Elantra for a few years and really liked that car. Yes

  • ugh, I can sympathize. DH took his car in last week because he had a flat tire and needed it repaired, and to see why the check engine light was on. They gave him such a crazy -long list for the check engine light issue, on top of a couple other things. $1400 to fix everything! He just went with 2 new tires and some other $40 repair, but it was still $400.

And this was 3 weeks after my car had an $1100 bill :(

His car is a 1998 Saturn, though, so it's not really a surprise. But still, really lousy timing.

  • I love Toyotas, they last forever!  In 2000, my dad gave me his 1977 Corolla to drive around (yes, 1977), and it was a beast!  It lasted at least until 2005 when we got rid of it, but I think someone else is still driving it around now!  When I was in the market for a new car last year I couldn't get it out of my head how much I loved that old Corolla, so now I have a new one!  I was commuting about 100 miles a day for about the last year, and it has really held up.  I just take it in for regular maintenance and make sure to catch small things before they become big problems, and it's great.  It's a compact car, but it's so much "bigger than it seems".  There is a ton of room in the back seat, and the trunk is huge.  I absolutely love my car.  FI sold his car at the "first stage" of our move from Atlanta to Boston, and was trying to get me to sell mine, but I think we will prefer having a car in reserve, as opposed to being forced to ride the T or cab it.  And I just can't bear to part with it!
