Hi!
Thanks for the advice! I think we are going to get a convertible car set (and skip the infant seat), for now anyways... I know we may change our mind on this, but for now, that is what we are thinking. So I started to look into the Britax Marathon and the First Years True Fit.
Yes, Betty, this pg has FLOWN by! I cannot beleive our little guy will be here in approx 2 months! And my doc seems to think he may be early too!
Thanks for the suggestions!!
Re: F/U to car seat Q
I guess since I've last spoken to you, you've broken down and found out that you're having a boy.... Congratulations! Dave must be thrilled :-) I guess my prediction was right :-)
Just to give you the heads up, I forgot to mention that the Britax Marathon is a huge carseat and takes up a lot of room in the backseat of my Grand Prix. Just a thought, considering the car that you are now driving.
BTW, are you still committed to the boys name you had originally chosen?
TTYS
Just an FYI that your hospital may not let you leave with the baby in a convertible car seat. I know that ours was very specific in everyone having an infant seat.
We have the Graco Safe Seat and like it.
I have the truefit. We did have an infant seat, but now have DD in the Truefit. She is almost 17 months old, and I still have hear rear facing in the truefit. The great thing about the truefit is that there is a removable headrest that makes it a bit smaller while rear facing.
I'd like to keep her rear facing even longer, but she is getting tall enough that I need to add the headrest soon, and with the headrest the seat will be too big for my car. Boo - since she is great in the seat both weight and length wise.
The only negative when the truefit is rear facing is that the strap length adjustment is between baby's legs, but when rear facing the button gets kind of squished by the seat back, making it a bit hard to adjust (easy to adjust to loosen, harder to tighten because of the space restrictions). But, I find it pretty rare I have to adjust the strap length due to the continuous straps.
I have 3 True Fit seats (one for each of our cars, and one for MIL's car), and I got them all for $149,99 on sale - watch for sales as they get discounted pretty heavily when on sale).
I had never heard of a hospital not allowing you to take the baby in a convertible seat. If that is the case in your hospital, maybe you can borrow someone's infant seat just to take the baby home from the hospital. There are advantages to the infant seat (not having to wake baby up if he/she falls asleep in the car) that I personally wouldn't give up, but I know some people who chose to just go the convertible route. Good luck!
Hi!
Thanks for all the additional info, I totally appreciate it! I will check with my doctor about the infant seat vs convertible seat leaving the hospital... I have an appt today!
Haha!! Betty! Sorry, it was a total slip! I always refer to the baby as "he" or "little guy" but we really don't know if it is a boy or girl. If it ends up being a girl, I am going to give her a total complex! But either way, a BF or a GF for Lexi for sure!
