Is it just me....?

Is it just me or does anyone else HATE going to weddings?  We have 5 weddings next year, two of my cousins, two of Aaron's cousins and my sisters.

We have to go to my sisters for obvious reasons, but I REALLY dont want to go to any other ones and I'm trying to think up excuses.  Luckily the fall weddings I can easily blame on work, but we have a summer wedding too, and I'm not sure what to do about that one...

Re: Is it just me....?

  • Lol.  It's just you!  Maybe not but I love going to weddings.
  • I go back and forth.  I've always loved being a Bridesmaid or going to like my BFF's weddings and my brothers..but not the other ones.  And I can't WAIT to go to mine :).
  • I really like going to weddings!  I've always had a good time at the ones I've gone to so I can't complain :)
  • I love going to weddings!  However, there was one year that DH and I each had 7 weddings to attend, some we were in, some we weren't and I have to say - it was just too much.  So I can understand not wanting to go to several in the same year.
  • I like weddings, too!

Although, we have one this summer that we're not going to because we don't really know the people (Bri's 3rd cousin.)  The wedding is July 3rd out of town so we're blaming the baby.  Wink

  • We usually have a good time....except once, we went to the wedding of an ex co-worker/friend of mine and we didn't know a single person other than the bride and the families were sorta dull. However, the food was delicious so it was okay

  • Haha... I haven't been to that many weddings because (1) all my family lives on the east coast (2) I'm the first of my good friends to get hitched.

I usually end up having more fun than I thought I would, so it's not bad. :) Usually leading up to them I'm like "How can I get out of this?!" lol.

I felt the same way about baby showers last year, as you do about weddings this year. I went to 4 baby showers last year... I was babied out by the last one.

  • Tracy, I'm totally with you!  I used to love them before I got married.  Then I got married and was thoroughly convinced that every wedding should be a DW.  3 of my friends have gotten married stateside within the last year, and it just wasn't fun.  I know that probably makes me sound like a real b*tch.  But I can empathize with you.
  • I love wedding as long as there is booze.  Call me an ALCHE (sp) but it just makes wedding so much more fun.  Bonus points if it's open bar, which aren't very common where I'm from for some reason.

I once went to a wedding that was a 7 course meal (seriously) that took 2.5 hours to serve. BUT THEY WOULDN'T ALLOW ALCOHOL AT THE RECEPTION!!!!!  The bride specifically said that.  ugh.  So basically this non alcoholic wedding ruined it for all NA weddings for me.

I'm glad I'm not alone!  I dont think I would mind another DW, but going to regular weddings I HATE.  Its like an all day event plus I HATE making small talk with people I barely know / see at the weddings.

  • It's not just you...I hate them too.  All of them...I hate seeing that special envelope in the mail.  I don't like bridal showers, bachelorette parties, and absolutely dread baby showers and kids birthday parties...but I go (usually I've sucked down a couple of cocktails beforehand too...esp. if it's something involving kids).

And I have more bridesmaids dresses than I know what to do with...I'm also always tempted to "respectfully decline" when asked to be in a wedding...then I'm absolutely, positively committed to doing all things listed above.  (To date, I have never had the balls to decline anything though...I really don't have much of a spine).
