Re: Poll Time!

  • 1. Do you belong to a gym?  Why or why not? Kind of.  Our leasing office has a small fitness center.  I make frequent use of it, but I don't technically belong to a gym.

    2. If you belong to a gym, how much do you pay? Nothing.  It's included in our rent.

    3. Do you take any group exercise classes? Why or why not? Nope.  There aren't any offered at our podunk facility.

    4. If you do take group fitness classes, how much do you pay? N/A

    5. If you don't belong to a gym or take any group fitness classes, what might encourage you to do so and how much do you think you'd be willing to pay? I would consider taking a group fitness class, but it would really, really depend on where it was and what time it is.  The biggest commercial centers are in the opposite direction of where I work.

One of my coworkers is working on opening her own yoga studio and when/if that happens I will totally take advantage of her 30 days for $30 deal, but after that it gets a lot more expensive and I probably won't do it anymore.

    Poll time!

    1. Do you belong to a gym?  Why or why not? Yes. Because I'm trying not to be a fatty. I don't like running outside, especially living in a city.. so it's joining a gym or nothing!
    2. If you do belong to a gym, how much do you pay? $40 a month.
    3. Do you take any group exercise classes?  Why or why not? Yes. Spinning mostly, sometimes step aerobics, sometimes a group weight lifting class, sometimes kickboxing. They have Bikram Yoga but I haven't made it there yet... I'm too nervous.
    4. If you do take group fitness classes, how much do you pay? They're free with my membership! Otherwise, I wouldn't be taking them :)
    5. If you don't belong to a gym or take any group fitness classes, what might encourage you to do so and how much do you think you'd be willing to pay?  N/A

Thanks ladies!  I'll explain more later!!  Smile

    1. Do you belong to a gym?  Why or why not?- No, because they are expensive here!
    2. If you do belong to a gym, how much do you pay? - N/A
    3. Do you take any group exercise classes?  Why or why not? - My Husband and I walk every other day for about 1.75 miles.
    4. If you do take group fitness classes, how much do you pay?- N/A
    5. If you don't belong to a gym or take any group fitness classes, what might encourage you to do so and how much do you think you'd be willing to pay?  I get bored easily with exercise so walking works for me because we are constantly changing our route so I don't get bored with the scenery.  Price is probably the most important reason we don't go to a gym.  I definitely wouldn't want to pay more than $10 a month.

  • 1.  I belong to a gym but I'm looking to change to one closer to my house now that my insurance changed and covers new places

    2.  I pay about 40 bucks a month but if I go 12 times, it'll be 20.

    3.  I do take group classes.  I am a huge fan of water aerobics!  I don't take the studio classes though for no good reason than I'm uncoordinated on land and being in a group like that intimidates me a bit!  :-P

    4.  I don't pay for them - they're included in the cost of membership.

    5.  not applicable.  Hubby and I go together although he hates water aerobics!

    1. Do you belong to a gym?  Why or why not? Yes I belong to a gym, Gold's Gym.  I joined for the classes and working out in the movie room, so no one can see my face when I run.  It looks all crazy!
    2. If you do belong to a gym, how much do you pay?  My gym membership is $29 a month.
    3. Do you take any group exercise classes?  Why or why not?  I do.  Group classes is the main reason I joined.  I love doing Zumba, pilates, and hip hop aerobics.  i still haven't gotten up the nerve to try spinning.  Don't want to fall off my bike and the seats hurt my butt.
    4. If you do take group fitness classes, how much do you pay? The group classes are included in the price.  HOWEVER, they just did away with my hip hop aerobics class (the instructor left) AND moved Zumba to 9am in which I can't go.  PISSED!  So now I am paying for the Zumba/hip hop class at the YMCA, where I used to go.  It costs $30 for 7 weeks.  and still using the movie room at Golds.
    5. If you don't belong to a gym or take any group fitness classes, what might encourage you to do so and how much do you think you'd be willing to pay?  It's fun!  You all should try a class! I'll go with you! :)
  • Do you belong to a gym?  Why or why not? I used to, but not anymore. I joined because it really motivated me and I liked the variety. I quit because I switched jobs and it's no longer near where I work.

If you do belong to a gym, how much do you pay? Mine was $20 a month- which is an awesome deal where I live.

Do you take any group exercise classes? Why or why not? Never took any. I preferred to do my own routines, and the times never worked out for me.

If you do take group fitness classes, how much do you pay? N/A for me now, but at my old gym all classes were included except spin, which was $2 per class.

If you don't belong to a gym or take any group fitness classes, what might encourage you to do so and how much do you think you'd be willing to pay? I used the money I saved on they gym membership to buy an elliptical and some weights that I do use, so it would take a lot to convince me- it would have to be really cheap and really close. I guess it would be fun to go to classes for some variety though now that I don't have a gym- so maybe something with no membership fee but you could pay a small amt (like $2-3) per class?

  • Do you belong to a gym?  Why or why not?
Yes, because I am training for a 5K and need indoor treadmill.  Two words: Chicago Weather.

If you do belong to a gym, how much do you pay?
Have a joint subscription w/ DH... sooo I pay around $25 per month.

Do you take any group exercise classes?  Why or why not?
    No, because I'm self conscious.

If you do take group fitness classes, how much do you pay?
    N/A

If you don't belong to a gym or take any group fitness classes, what might encourage you to do so and how much do you think you'd be willing to pay?
    N/A
  • 1. Do you belong to a gym? Why or why not? Yes...I had a treadmill but I never used it so I thought if I was paying money every month I would be more motivated to work out

    2. If you do belong to a gym, how much do you pay? $1 to join, $10 a month $30 annual fee that is paid in October

    3. Do you take any group exercise classes? Why or why not? No, its not offered where I go...I am looking into classes elsewhere though when the weather  breaks

    4. If you do take group fitness classes, how much do you pay?N/A

    5. If you don't belong to a gym or take any group fitness classes, what might encourage you to do so and how much do you think you'd be willing to pay? N/A

  • Do you belong to a gym? Why or why not? technically, yes. My husband's work has a company gym and employees and spouses get to use it for free.

If you do belong to a gym, how much do you pay? nada

Do you take any group exercise classes? Why or why not? no, but that's just because I'm lazy. lol

If you do take group fitness classes, how much do you pay? If I did want to take one, it wouldn't cost me anything.

If you don't belong to a gym or take any group fitness classes, what might encourage you to do so and how much do you think you'd be willing to pay?

    1. Do you belong to a gym?  Why or why not? No, I don't belong to a gym for a couple of reasons. First I know ablsolutely nothing about any of the equipment and feel to intimidated to learn and second I have a small attention spand and feel I would get bored and end up wasting my money.
    2. If you do belong to a gym, how much do you pay?  N/A
    3. Do you take any group exercise classes?  Why or why not? My friend and I did start to a variety class that used a combo of pilates, cardio and weights which I really liked but she kept flaking on me and I didn't pick it up again after the last session ended. I have been pretty much only taking dance classes for now but I plan to do some of the drop-in fitness courses offered at our local rec center.
    4. If you do take group fitness classes, how much do you pay? For one dance it's $65 for 5 weeks, for the other it $85 for 8 weeks and for the drop in classes I use my monthly swim card as it gets me into 4 different facilities in the city and gives me access to all sorts of things.
    5. If you don't belong to a gym or take any group fitness classes, what might encourage you to do so and how much do you think you'd be willing to pay?  I might be more hip to join a gym if I knew someone would help me out and not be bossy or snoody about it. I wish they offered a gym for dummies class for people like me. I am not sure how much i'd pay but I would like to be able to go on a month to month basis and not be locked into a contract.

    1. Do you belong to a gym?  Why or why not Yes, because I need to get in shape!! Also I wanted somewhere to swim.
    2. If you do belong to a gym, how much do you pay? $500 for the year
    3. Do you take any group exercise classes?  Why or why not? I haven't yet, but I'd like to. The times they are scheduled aren't great for me.
    4. If you do take group fitness classes, how much do you pay? n/a - but if I did, it would depend on the class. The basics (step, spinning, aerobics, etc) come with the membership; I'd have to pay for classes like yoga, pilates, etc.
    5. If you don't belong to a gym or take any group fitness classes, what might encourage you to do so and how much do you think you'd be willing to pay? n/a but I want to know where these $10/month gyms are!!!

    1. Do you belong to a gym?  Why or why not? Kind of...it's a community center like the JCC so a gym is part of the deal.  Why?  Because when I have time, I like that I can monitor my workouts electronically through their machines and add non-machine work.  Plus, it's a more inspiring environment than my living room.
    2. If you do belong to a gym, how much do you pay?  26/mo
    3. Do you take any group exercise classes?  Why or why not? No, class times are the suck compared to work and school.
    4. If you do take group fitness classes, how much do you pay? If I did, each class varies on price based on the number of slots open, the type of room used, and the equipment used
    5. If you don't belong to a gym or take any group fitness classes, what might encourage you to do so and how much do you think you'd be willing to pay? I'd take classes if they offered a better schedule--night classes.

  • 1. Do you belong to a gym?  Why or why not? No, because we live in an apartment with a free gym in the clubhouse.  But I don't even use it, I use our Wii. :) The other questions aren't really applicable since I work out with our Wii in our living room.  And I don't even do that very often.  I really wouldn't pay for a gym membership, I'm really cheap.  Get some hand weights and a DVD. :)

  • 1. Yes, because our apartment is noisy and jumping around is not an option. I do incorporate exercise outside of the gym, though (walking, running).

    2. $34.99 a month

    3. Yes. I love kickboxing and Latin Impact (basically Zumba), I used to take Hip Hop but can only make it when I'm on a shortened schedule. I spin on ocassion, too. I am competitive when it comes to some things (especially Zumba...I like to be the best) so I like to be in a group so I have people to compete against!

    4. They are included in the gym membership fee

    5. N/A

    1. Do you belong to a gym?  Why or why not? No, because it;s so sterile and awkward and always crowded. Oh and CRAZY EXPENSIVE! It's between $80 and 100 a month in NYC, which is insane to me.
    2. If you do belong to a gym, how much do you pay?  N/A
    3. Do you take any group exercise classes?  Why or why not? I do attend weekly classes at a yoga studio and love them! It's a workout, but it's also calming and there are no muscle-heads hogging the equipment.
    4. If you do take group fitness classes, how much do you pay? $7.50 to 10 per class, and $75 for a 6-week workshop. $1 to rent a mat if you don't bring your own.
    5. If you don't belong to a gym or take any group fitness classes, what might encourage you to do so and how much do you think you'd be willing to pay?  I don't honestly think I would pay for a gym at any price. It's just not for me. i think my yoga is really cheap and since I get so much enjoyment and benefit from it, I would actually pay more.
