Daycare Questionnaire? Rachel or any other experts
Forgive me, for I am fairly certain that I've asked this before.
But we are going to check out KinderCare tomorrow morning. I have no idea what to look for, infant-wise. What should I be looking for/asking?
If J gets the job (90% sure...YAY), then he will start immediately, so we need to find a place asap. KinderCare is 280/wk for infants. Ouch. But I like their learning-focus.
Re: Daycare Questionnaire? Rachel or any other experts
TTC #1 13 cycles, CP 6/09, TTC #2 1 cycle
CDing, EP'd for 13 months for #1, BFing for #2
Pregnancy Hypertension - inductions at 39w, I grow big babies: DD was 9 pounds 1 ounce 22 inches, DS was 11 pounds even 22 inches - both vaginal deliveries
This.
Also - ask these:
1. Are the infants and older children ever "mixed" together. (I would say no to those places, unless its a rare occasion b/c its sort of a dangerous thing).
2. Ask about staff training; how often they get CPR training/first aid training and if they have any extra training.
3. What happens if Scarlett is sick?
4. Are your staff members given the flu shots?
5. Where do the babies nap? (Make sure they have their own space that is "theirs")
6. Can I drop in unexpectedly?
7. What would you do if someone not on "the list" tried to pick up my baby?
8. Tell me about infection control at your center?
9. References please!
10. Ask about their discipline policy and make sure its in line with your ideas.
11. What happens if Scarlett gets sick? How fast do I need to be there if she has a fever and needs to leave?
12. When do you close? Are you open on most holidays (except the biggies)
13. When do infants move "up" to a toddler room? Some places do it as soon as they walk, even if they're under a year, which would make me nervous.
14. Do your staff have to go through a background check perioically or just once?
15. Make sure that they've never had a child get injured or die in their care. Sounds obvious, I know.
16. What happens if Scarlett hits/bites/punches someone or is hit/bit/punched? Do you separate the kids?
17. Tell me about field trips and outings.
18. TV - are kids watching TV ever? Make sure its limited if they are allowed to watch TV.
19. Make sure it seems clean and acceptable to you. If you feel even the slightest bit like its not the right place, then its not. You have to feel 100% comfortable to leave your kid somewhere. GO WITH YOUR GUT!
