Ugg, pitting edema

2010 is not getting any better for me, health wise.

I've had a low-grade migraine all week, I had called yesterday but my doc was out of the office.  This morning I woke up and my fingers looked like little sausages.  I figured my BP was elevated, and that was causing the migraine.  My ring finger was painful, so with much effort, I got my wedding rings off.

DH drove me to the doctor.  BP was high, but not especially so.  I had GAINED 7 pounds in the week since I've seen her (apparently it's water).  She said my legs/feet actually look worse than my hands, that she could push in 1/4 in or so and leave an indent.  Then she asked me if I might be pregnant - we laughed because DH got snipped 10 years ago.  She made me pee in a cup anyway b/c AF is late (it was negative).  So then she took a bunch of blood for testing my kidney functions or something, gave me a shot in the butt for the migraine, and sent me home.  I have been knocked out on the couch all day.

I don't know what's wrong with me!  I'm not even 40 yet, why am I falling apart?

Re: Ugg, pitting edema

  • Dear Lord you need a break!  Did they come up with any reason as to why these things keep happening?  Have you always had kidney problems?  This sucks so bad.  I hope you get answers and healthy fast fast!
  • I've never had kidney problems before.  However, good ol' AF showed up 5 minutes ago, which could explain the water retention and migraine.  Only 18 days late.  Now let's see if it goes away in the next few days.  That would be awesome.
  • Ouch! Did the give you lasix ir something for the swelling? I hope they get this figured out fast!

  • OMG-Wendi! I'm so sorry this is happening!

I hope you get this figured out soon! This is crazy!  And you and I are young 39 yr olds!!! No getting old here, missy!

Hope tomorrow is better since AF showed with her lovely box (I hate that commercial).

    Feel better, get some rest!

  • Here's my standard OT advice:
Elevate your hands and feet, esp. when lying down.
Once an hour (when you are awake, don't wake up to do this!), Hold your hands about shoulder level (above your heart) and open/close your hands 10 times.  Also do ankle pumps "wave" your feet back and forth at the ankle 10 times.  That should help move any fluid you are retaining in your limbs.

  • I was sort hoping that you'd be KU, because I think I'd like to term the phrase Mini-Redneck but I can understand your relief.

Feel better and take breanne's advice; it sounds like the same advice they gave me when my ankles got all nasty towards the end of the reign of Hunter inside my uterus.

And I hope they get it all figured out.  While you wait, milk it for all its worth and make Redneck your b!tch.

  • Rachel, since he's been snipped for 10 years, I would have an awful lot of 'splaining to do if I was KU.  We've talked about getting it reversed, but it's not likely going to happen.  I would love a mini-Redneck!

    Stranger things have happened lol.....
  • Oh wow!  You really need a break with everything!  I hope they figure out what's causing all these health issues.  And, since AF started, I hope that helps to alleviate some of your aches and pains.  Have any of the tests you've had recently given any indication of what could be going on?  Do you think it'd be good to see some more doctors?  Hugs your way in the hopes you're feeling better soon!
