Hi Ladies!
DH and I are thinking of buying a DSLR. It is something we have been mulling over for a while, and I think we are finally ready to buy! I am super excited, as I love to take photos.
I am undecided between the Canon Xsi or T1i. Does anyone have either of these cameras? From what I can tell, the main difference is that the T1i has HD video capabilities (whereas the Xsi is just for still photography). But someone was telling me that the T1i video is not that great, since it does not focus automatically. Apparently, you have to manually focus as you shoot a video, which sounds super complicated to me. If that is the case, I should save the $, and go with the Xsi I think. Not sure how true this is... I think I will also stop at a camera specialty store to ask.
Does anyone know anything about these cameras or have suggestions/recommendations? Also, DH is buying me an additional lense to go with it (belated Chrsitmas present)... so suggestions for lenses? I think I will be taking lots of pictures of the babe (obviously!) and we love to travel, so scenic pics as well.
Oh, and not sure if it matters, but we are buying it with air miles! So I have been trying to do most of my research online, etc, without going into a store.
Thanks for any advice!
Re: DSLR Question
I have the Canon Xs so I can't really speak to the difference b/t the Ti & XSi.
here is a really easy website to understand/compare the two: http://www.digital-slr-guide.com/compare-canon-digital-rebel.html
Your first lens you should buy (according to my wedding photographers) is the 50mm 1.8. Its nickname is the "nifty fifty" and its a good lens for portraits and the price is right at about $150.
Hope this helps!
http://snapsort.com lets you directly compare two cameras and gives you plain-facts stats on them both. They declare the T1i a pretty solid winner - better on all fronts except a marginal (3%) loss in the speed of shooting.
Good advice on the 50 f/1.8. GREAT lens!

I know you are buying with airmiles, but I'd still suggest going into a store and talking to someone. They are always happy to help and give advice and let you feel and look at the cameras.
Either would be an excellent choice depending on your specific needs.
