kara and mommies re: newborn pics

so i know i have some time to figure this out, but i was curious what your take was on newborn pics.

should/did you do them right away (2 weeks) or wait a little (2-3 months)

kara, since you've done a bunch by now, what do you think comes out better?  i wish you were closer, i just love your work!

thanks!

Re: kara and mommies re: newborn pics

  • we got professional pictures taken at 3 months.  i do wish though, that we had done some when she was a few months old so that we could have had some of those great sleepy baby shots.
  • I'm not Kara, But she's doing ours this weekend and he'll be a little over a week old.

It's better I think to do them early because they will sleep more and you can position them just how you want to and not have to worry about them moving around to much. PLus they fit in small things like baskets and plates and bowls LOL which I love photos like that.

I can't wait to see them once there done!

  • My photog recommended about 10 days old. Looking back at those pictures she was totally right. He was strong, yet still sooooo new. I'd highly recommend someone coming to your home. Did I ever show his baby album?

  • I'm not a new momma or kara but I had to respond. Theres a girl on my fb that had someone come to the house within the first week... maybe even a few days later then a week. And they are THE most precious pics I've ever seen. I'd totally do it right away!

  • We have not had any pro pics done.

But if you want newborn pics, I would do them in the first 2 weeks.  The baby changes SO much after those two weeks.

  • We did not have ours done until 3 weeks and our photographer said that she liked to do NB pics the first 7-10 days. After that they start stretching out and you can't position them like you want. We did NB and 3 months so far. We are going to do 6,9 and 12.

  • 2 friends of ours had newborn pics done at about 10 days - both adorable because like the other ladies said, you can position them more while they are sleeping!
  • Within 2 weeks is ideal, the earlier the better actually!  Most newborn photogs travel to you with their massive amounts of stuff (sorry Amanda, I'll be invading!).  Most have their own protocol for what they want to do and how they do it.  I enjoy having the baby to myself and letting them sleep/clean/whatever for awhile and then they come back and we do family ones together.  I like this because most people get a bit nervous, but some don't, it really depends on the parents.  But I'd totally take advantage of the free time you get :)

I don't have any friends down there but feel free to shoot me whoevers website you're thinking of if you want to know about them! I can pretty much tell by blog/portfolio how they work!  Many photogs offer first year plans that are cheaper than buying sessions individually!

I prefer naked baby shots :)  And on platters...platters are fun!

aww yes, naked is the cutest. The girl I mentioned has one of her holding her lil naked baby in her hands (he's a serious peanut) and she's leaning over and kissing him. All black and white. Absolutely precious. I think I've decided I'll be doing this when my time comes hehe.

  • I've been told my several photographers that it's best less than 14 days because that is when they "wake up". Before then, they can position them and they stay. We tried ours at 12 days and Camryn wouldn't sleep, and she needed her sleeping. We went back a week later and it was hard b/c everytime she put her in a position, she'd move out of it, even while sleeping. I can't believe you're almost there!!! Where are you delivering??
