Maternity Leave Question

Hey ladies!!

This might be a stupid question, but I thought I would ask anyway. I know that when you're on maternity leave you get like 15 weeks "maternity" leave and then 35 weeks "parental" leave. What I want to know is, when the maternity part runs out is there anything you have to do for the parental part or does it just kick in automatically? I don't remember seeing anything in the forms I filled out about it, and I think my maternity part is just about up and I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything!! I couldn't find anything on the website about it.

TIA!! Big Smile

Re: Maternity Leave Question

  • Nothing really changes. It's just a status change on their end. It stated on your online app if you are doing 52 weeks and if you are it's 17 and 35.

  • Your daughter is adorable!

Evan has that same dimple. Doesn't it just melt your heart?

  • It happens automatically. :)

  • No worries, it changes over automatically, you do not have to do anything.

And I also agree, you little one is such a sweetie!!

  • As the previous posts stated, nothing changes when you switch over (as far as EI benefits), but depending on your employer and SUB play payments or maternity top-up (if you receive it), it may run out around this time, as mine did. Work topped me up for the first 15 weeks, but only a little, and then around when parental leave kicked in, they stopped.
  • Thanks ladies!! I didn't think I had to do anything different but I just wanted to make sure!!

And thanks for the comments about Sophia!! We think she's adorable too... not that we're biased or anything! *lol*
