Does your office have a gym?

When the weather is nice, I go outside and walk/run (depending on my mood and just how nice the weather is), but I hate missing days bc it's freezing or rainy.

Our business location near our house has a gym and I wish mine did. I would love to be able to go workout during lunch (closest gym is 15 miles away). With no travel time, I could get a good workout in, shower, and eat without going over my break. Just wishing our office had a gym. One day...

Do any of you have a gym at your office? Or one close by that you can easily get to during lunch? Do you use it? Would you use it if there was one?

Re: Does your office have a gym?

  • There's a gym in my building, but I don't use it.  We don't get any sort of company discount or anything, which suuuucks.  To clarify, the gym is at the top floor of our building (a high-rise), and it's only open to employees within the building, so it's not a chain gym or anything.  The monthly dues are more expensive than my gym near home anyway.  The deciding factor to not go there was that since I work a flexible hours schedule (6-2; and am only in the office 2 days a week) I didn't want to feel trapped at the office and get stuck in traffic on the way home, or on the flip-side have to drive 20 min+ to my office just to use the gym any other day.

I can see the benefit of having one right there though.

  • Oh, see our gym is a benefit of the company, so there is no charge. It's there to promote fitness, but is only at one location.

I definitely see your point though. If I had a flexible schedule I wouldn't go either. I just want one now bc I won't go after work -- I'd rather go home and see DH. So if I miss my workout at lunch, I either skip it all together or do something small after dinner.

  • Other locations of the company around the world have them but ours does not.  Our office building isnt large enough.  I would love love love to have one here.  When the weather is nice, a coworker and I walk/jog/run in the mile and a half block behind our building because it is all business offices with no thru traffic.  If we had a gym here, I would use it totally.  I have a Y right down the street from my house but by the time I leave work, I am already talking myself out of it and then half way home I think about what I need to do there.  Which is why i cancelled my membership.
  • Ha!  That is funny!...

Um, no, we don't.  I'd prob use it if we did, but then again, there are 2 I drive by en route home.  I'm def not a 'go to the gym' kinda gal.  We do have one in our 'clubhouse'-aka the room above the detached garage that I do use.

  • Since I work at a hair salon , NO. But, Dh's office has one and he uses it a few times a week. I would if I worked in a building with one.
  • I work for a tiny company, so no, but it would be awesome. Hmm, we are trying to rent out the 4th floor apartment ($3,200 for a one bedroom - never going to happen, my boss is so greedy). Maybe we could turn it into a gym?!
  • We do at our corporate headquarters where I used to work in GA. It was one of those "campuses" where they had a gym, big cafeteria, riverfront where you can jog, bank, haircut place, etc.

I never used the gym b/c I thought it was awkward seeing coworkers sweating and grunting. I would rather work out at home and I lived 2 blocks away anyway.

  • There is a gym in my building but I don't use it.  I have a gym membership by my house and a gym in my condo building, which I use a lot.  I used to belong to the gym in my building and not by my house, but the work gym's hours were not good for my schedule.  Plus I was weirded out working out with people from work.

This.  We have a 24Hour Freakness in the basement.  I used to use it...for 3 years.  Then I moved much further away from work to a complex that had a gym, so I cancelled my membership.  I used that twice.  Then we moved to our current complex, which was redoing its gym.  Just reopened.  Never used it.

I don't like the gym.  I just want to buy an elliptical or a treadmill and hang clothes off of it...I mean use it in front of the tv.  Maybe they'll be room in my new house.

  • We don't have a gym at the bank.  One of my coworkers walks a block to the rec center and then walks on the treadmill there.  I'd rather walk outside, I am not a gym person.

I come home and meet DH every day for lunch, so I wouldn't use a gym anyway.  The girls and I walk the dog every night when I get home - we just started doing this since it's not dark by the time I get home anymore.
