Follow up: ipod confession
I was going to ask what ipod/mp3 you ladies recommeded if I were to get one. I know the ipod is the first name that comes to mind but there are many others that are probably cheaper and just as good. What does it cost to get songs? I had heard at one point it was $1 a song but that was a few years ago when they first came out I think.

I have an iTouch (which if you have wi-fi, it can connect to the internet). I also have added a few movies to it so I have something to watch when I take the train into work. If you buy an iPod you have to buy your music through iTunes or Amazon.com. All other music services are not compatible with iPod. You can add your own CD's and such though.
Amazon's music is cheaper than iTunes. 99 cents for popular songs vs. amazon's 1.29. Also, Amazon often has full cd's for $5 and they are usually very good artists.
As far as other mp3 player's go, I'm not sure what the other options are. I had a really old one before and it worked just fine. You may want to try posting on the gadgets and technology board, I've been there a few times and the ladies seem pretty helpful.
here is the link to the amazon service (there is an option you can pick to have it link directly to your iTunes folder, so no extra download steps are necessary)

I'm an Apple loyalist (for the most part) and have had iPods for the past 5 years or so...since I had mp3 players. There are other, cheaper alternatives but I don't know much about them, other than play your music. Mike refused to switch to an iPod for years b/c he didn't want to mess w/iTunes, but he finally got an iPod Touch when I bought my Macbook...he won't go back either. I upgraded to an iPod Touch for Christmas and I'm not sure how I lived life before...if Apple ever takes the iPhone to Verizon, I'm all over that.
Oh, and I buy my music from Amazon and download it directly to iTunes. Mel's right, it is cheaper.

I can't wear earbuds - I've tried about 4 of them and can't find any to fit my ears either, so I wear the set like this:
Love 'em.
I had a bigger video iPod for years and got the iPod nano for Christmas. Love the nano. I download from iTunes when I have gift cards to use and Amazon otherwise.
I did have a different mp3 player a long time ago. I can't even remember the brand. It worked well enough but the iPod seems to sound clearer and is much more user friendly (for instance, you can scroll through all your songs on the screen...my old one I would have to just keep telling it to skip songs to get to one I wanted. I also didn't have playlist options or the option of playing one specific artist....I'm sure they are better than they used to be since that was forever ago but I am an iPod user for life now).
you can also get earbuds that have custom ends on them. the iPod earbuds KILL my ears so I buy skullcandy (I think that's what they are called). They come with 3 different sized ends to choose from and I end up using the small ones. The good news is, MH uses the Med or large ones so when I bought his earbuds, I stole the small ends and now have two sets of ends for when I need to clean them. I have a hard time using the set of headphones like Paula posted because my head just doesn't seem to fit them right...of course it could be because I have a really cheap set from Walmart that my mom gave me.
