I just got off the phone with a friend, and basically, we've got a free flight to NYC and back, leaving tomorrow. Well, probably. We're flying standby, but there's a very good chance we'll get on the flights.
But....because of the standby thing, she doesn't want to book a hotel. We're flying into JFK, and we'll be there Saturday night, Sunday night, and we're coming home on Monday. I'm nervous about not having a hotel, I've never been to NYC and I know nothing about it!
Any advice? Where to stay? What to do?
(I'm sure you get travel posts all the time. Sorry! I live in Florida, so we get 'em, too.)
Re: Help a fellow nestie, please?
Why don't you call a hotel and ask about their cancellation policy? and also about their booking capacity for the night? (ie your chances of getting a room if you DON'T make a reservation.)
What's your budget for a room? we might be able to make some suggestions.
Probably about $200, less if possible.
My silly Lily is almost 4.
My ILs have stayed at this place a couple times. It was originally selected because it was on the corner of where we lived so super convenient. It's nothing fancy, or flashy, but I know they have decent prices/value. And the location is great - you are 3 blocks from times square and easy access to a lot of the subways and other attractions in midtown.
Skyline Hotel
Plus, there are some really, really great restaurants along 9th ave (one block away). If you like Thai food, you absolutely must go to Pam's Real Thai on 49th & 9th. It's cash only, but an amazing value for the food. DH and I used to go there every other week when we lived in the neighborhood.
The New York Hilton is great, and has available rooms at $219
The Hampton Inn Times Square North is convenient and fine, and has available rooms for $145. (I've stayed there before, once with no reservation)
The Roger Smith Hotel is convenient and has great rates $109
