I saw your message below....as far as my settings, it really depends on the lighting. If I'm taking photos of Cassie, or for that matter, anything that moves fast, I use a wide aperture and fast shutter speed.

What kind of camera did you get? I got mine almost a year ago and it's all just starting to sink in. All I can recommend is to play, play, play!

Re: [inamra]

  • I have the Canon Rebel T1i. I like it a lot so far. I'm able to take some pics of still objects at night (at home with regular house lighting) with a wide aperture and slow shutter speeds and a super steady hand that turned out not too bad. But I want to be able to take good pics of our baby after he's born, so I tried to practice with the dogs (they move much faster but when our boy gets older, he'll be faster too) with faster shutter speeds and ISO 1600 and everything came out so dark if I want to freeze the action, unless I use flash. I wonder if this is just because it's nighttime and our house lights aren't bright enough or because I don't know how to work it yet. =P

  • If you're taking a lot of indoor/night pics, you might want to invest in an external flash (speedlight). I don't have one yet, but I think that would help you.

I hate taking indoor/night pics with a high ISO because they look so grainy!

    Which lens did you use?

  • Yeah. I hate the graininess too! The max I would wanna go is 800. But then the pic was pitch black without flash =P I have a Canon 18-55 mm 3.5-5.6 lens that came in a kit with the camera.

Which lens do you have? Was your siggy pic taken during the day?
