I lurk. Oh how I lurk.
I actually don't live in Austin anymore. In fact, me and the FI just moved to Columbus, Ohio and will be here for about two years and then will probably head back down south. We live in a kickarse loft downtown now and we are in the process of selling our house in the Milwood area of Austin. I was an early victim of the recession and was laid off from my cushy life insurance gig in July of 2008, while FI had flourished from the economy and is now an account executive for Dell, which is why we moved to Ohio. I decided to go to college, started at ACC, and now I'm going to be transferring to Ohio State (as soon as they get my app out of evaluation, come on people) to get my urban planning degree. After that it's either law or grad school. We're saving up to put a mondo down payment on a downtown Austin condo when we return and one day plan to adopt.
Well, that's about me in a nutshell. Nice to come out of lurking.

It's good to "meet" you! Good luck selling your house ... it seems like it might be picking up some here in Austin! And I would looove to live in a condo downtown! A friend of ours does and between the view and the location ... WOW.

Hehe, thank you everybody! We're actually under contract right now and the house only sat on the market for 50 days! Woohoo!

Dreamincitrus, I live in Milwood right now, although we dream of having that condo downtown as well. Milwood is lovely, but we're city people at heart.

I remember you from the Knot boards! You suggested The Allen House to me I believe and you were super nice. Darn, if I'd known you lived in Milwood we could've thrown block parties before I moved and caused a ruckus!
Btw, have you heard of the Brown Building? It's on 8th and Colorado (Gumbo's is on the ground floor) and that's our 'goal' building and why we're squirreling our money away. Either that or Clarksville, which kind of reminds me of Milwood as it is also very lovely.

So, so, so jealous that you're actually going to go for the dream of living downtown. That's going to be so fabulous. We joke that we'll either move to "grown-up" Milwood (the area off of Tamayo {closer to Parmer} that has the bigger houses) or just move closer to downtown (bcs it's more fun for us, and more important, our commute right now is just ridiculous). One day, one day!! But for now, it totally works for us. We have good friends that live super close, and again, the aforementioned, convenient neighborhood bar.
