If you name your next dog Picard, I will DIE of happiness.

We're actually watching all of the Next Generation series right now (right from episode one)...the funny thing is that all of Ben's nerd friends are in awe that
I'm the Trekkie in the relationship lol.
Re: *annasan*
LOL! Well, then now we have to seeing as we already have the Korben/Leeloo connection.
MH has ALL the DVDs for TNG (yup, all SEVEN seasons) and he/we watched every single episode all last summer. We're more of a TNG family and not original series (minus, of course, the reboot which I could watch every single day
). Picard was quite the captain, but I have a sweet spot for Janeway b/c that woman had balls. OMG - did I just nerd myself out?
What season of TNG are you guys in? I have to admint, that first season was pretty painful. Bad dialogue, actors finding their way around the characters, sad special effects. Have you seen the episode where Tasha Yar and Data....*ahem*. We always crack up when Data says that he is fully functional and is programmed in many techniques - HA HA HA HA.
Go figure you're still bogged down trying to watch Season 3 of Heroes.
SHUN.
LOL just kidding. But I was raised on the original series (I think my dad nearly died of happiness when it finally came out on DVD), so I have a deep, undying fondness for it...especially McCoy, who I thought was pretty much the funniest guy ever when I was a preteen (yeah...NOW who's the nerd, eh?). Plus, how can you not love the tribble episode???
We're still only in season one...I think about 3/4 of the way through it now? I'd actually never seen the first season before, so it's been quite the experience lol. Hey, when does Riker grow his beard? Sometime in season 2? He looks so funny without it.
I do love me some Janeway, but for some reason Neelix and Chakotay always kind of irk me. Too cutesy and too...I don't know...bland?
Ha ha, well it was my older bro that got me into sci fi, not my dad, so I guess it makes sense I was introduced a generation later.
I remember a few OS episodes, including the tribble one and that one with the boulder-like creature that would back its butt up against the wall and a message was printed? Do you remember that one? I believe my bro and I made uncontrolled jokes about rock-farts.
I think it's S2 when Riker grows his beard. And Troy's tops become even more revealing.
Ha ha ha.
Yeah, Neelix and Chakotay were a little irritating. And what was up with Chakotay's delivery? It's like OS Kirk, Benjamin Sisco, and Chakotay all went to the Drama School of Stilted... Speech ... Cadence. Thank god Chris Pine didn't recreate that in the reboot movie. I was bummed they wrote Kes off, but I suppose most fan(boys) were glad since that ushered in Seven of Jugs, er I mean Nine.
The only series I really missed out on was Enterprise. Not sure why, but I think I was on a TV hiatus or something.
LMAO I don't remember that episode! But a butt printing rock creature does sound par for the course on OS...
Oh I was SO relieved when they didn't have Chris Pine do the "I. Am. SO. Awesome." stilted speaking in the new movie. It was actually something I was nervous about.
I think you're right that maybe it was Chakotay's delivery that annoyed me so much about him!
Also, what did you think of the final episode of Voyager? I was like..."seriously? That's how they're ending it? That took 5 minutes!" Meh.
I watched part of Enterprise - they kept shifting the time it was aired when it was on TV here, so I didn't really end up watching it, and it never really grabbed me. I think Ben has seen most of it though.
I know! They certainly wrapped up Voyager pretty quickly, but I wonder if that's b/c the popularity of the series was waning and they had to end quickly. Actually, that's what I fear about Heroes, too. That they'll end the series really quick and lame-ly. But I was glad that the Voyager crew finally got home.
I did like the end to TNG - Q was pretty awesome. And DS9's end was OK, although a bit religious for my taste. What did you think about those 2 finales?
That does sound oddly...I don't know...spiritual?
In a related sci-fi topic, did you watch Battlestar Galactica? I didn't really see the last two seasons, but I did watch the finale. I'm still not sure how I felt about it. The whole "angels" correlation was odd, and although in a way I think their final Earth thing was kind of elegant, in a way it was disappointing as well.
Maybe spiritual is a better description than religious. But yes, that finale was all warm fuzzies. I suppose the good part was back then, they were overlapping series so Voyager had already started so I didn't care much for DS9.
The only Battlestar Galactica I watched was the original one in the 80s. Man, those guys had some sexy sexy feathered hair! I was disappointed to hear that the new one didn't have the robot-dog - or did someone mislead me?
Another sci fi series people have recommned is Firefly (?), something fly? I have not seen it. As for more recent sci fi shows, I think Heroes kind of fits the bill - there are some sort of sci fi aspects to it. I also watched the new V show, and I also remember the original TV mini-series (funny aside, that was the first time I ever heard the phrase "make love" and I asked my mom what that was and I remember her getting all flustered and changing the subject, ha ha ha!). So far, V has been entertaining. Has that made it to Australia yet?
I hadn't even heard of V! I'll have to go google that in a minute.
And OMG, you have to watch Firefly. It is AWESOMENESS. It's kind of a space western, which sounds utterly bizarre - Ben bought the entire thing on DVD (it's only like a season and a half, got canceled WAY before it's time), and I spent the first three episodes or so going, "Are you kidding me? You seriously want me to watch this? For real? What the hell is this?" But around the fourth episode or so, I got really hooked! It's such a strange concept, but somehow it really works. Joss Whedon developed it, and one of the stars is the girl who now plays the hot teenage terminator in the Sarah Connor Chronicles. I love it. Loooooove it!
