What is the best way to find a rental home in W-S?

I sent an email to a realtor that has been in contact with me, looked through rent.com, move.com, and craigslist and also posted on craigslist.

Are there any other local resources that may be helpful in my search?

 Thanks for your help!

Re: What is the best way to find a rental home in W-S?

  • Are you coming down for a visit?  Especially around WFU/Baptist hospital, a lot of people don't advertise, because they don't need to.  (That may have changed somewhat as Craigslist has grown in popularity, but it used to be the case.)  So you have to drive around and look for signs.

Are you or your husband going into the residency program at WFU?  Have you checked to see if they have a housing office?  I know when we moved away from W-S with little notice, a friend who works there took in some info about the apartment we were trying to sublet.  But, I don't know if she just posted it in her department or if there was actually a central housing office that she submitted it to.

  • The plan is for me to fly down (with my dad) for one day, scope out places and pick one, and then later in spring go for a weekend with DH to get a feel for the area overall.  So that puts me at a disadvantage in finding something not advertised since I don't think they would be ready to show me the place in a matter of hours. :(

And yes, DH is doing a fellowship down there.  I have never been there and have no contacts with anyone, including the hospital.  I guess I'll have to get on him to send an email to the program coordinator and ask about the housing office!  Thanks!

  •  Good luck with your transition!  I assume his fellowship is based mostly at Baptist hospital.  Is that true?  There is a spouse association for residents/fellows at the hospital that advertises homes for sale.  I'm not sure if they do rentals as well or not but it may be a place to start.  I would check with his program coordinator.  They may direct him to the residency/fellow general office to get more information.  I agree with the previous poster that many of the homes for rent around Baptist hospital in the historic area of Ardmore typically don't advertise more than a sign in the yard.  He may also want to check with others in his program as they may know of people leaving that may have properties available.  Good luck again!  I did my residency there and had a great experience.
  • You may already have this info but to add to my above comments. . .

This link will get you to the incoming house staff page.  If you scroll through there is contact info for the house staff office as well as for the RSA (resident spouse association).  The RSA was the group I was talking about that lists homes for sale but I'm not sure about rentals.

    Good luck!
