can we talk baby names?

Since we have so many pregnant ladies (and just because I love talking about baby names) - let's hear your favorite names!  You certainly don't have to be pregnant to play, so join in Smile

Re: can we talk baby names?

  • A bunch of my favorite names are not DH-approved, but we'll cross that bridge whenever we get there!

I plan on using family names for middle names.  David (after my dad) and Virginia (after my Granny) are the first family names we'll use.

I think we'll either have a Jack David or Abigail (Abby) Virginia first.  Jack is a name we both love so I think that's a definite.  I have a hard time getting DH to talk about girl names because he doesn't want girls (insert eye roll).

    Other names we/I like:

Connor, Ethan, Henry, Cameron (but I hate how it's become unisex so I don't know if I'd use it)

    Mia, Ava, Sophie, Adelaide (Addie)

DH and I have a similar but opposite problem...there are a ton of girls names we like but hardly any boy names. And knowing my luck we'll have a boy because I want a girl. Wink

I like of sorta old, Victorian names like: Samantha, Elizabeth, Madelyn, Hannah, and Rosalie. DH likes most of these too, but also more modern names like Kayleigh, which I'm not really into.

For boys I kinda like Samuel and Jack. DH's father passed away about 15 years ago so we want to work his dad's name, John, in there somewhere even if it is just a middle name. I've thought of Jonathan, but I'm not sure.

My grandmother's name is Virginia too! People call her Ginny though. And my DH is named David. Since we have a long, Polish last name, we've decided to keep names short and sweet.

Girls: Kate Marie or Riley Mai (even before I met DH, I've always loved that name and it flows so well. And mai is the french spelling for May).

Boys: Evan David (Haven't really thought of too many boys names) When I was younger, my mom lost a baby and she was going to name him Tanner Johanson (<--family name) or TJ for short. Still thinking about that one.

  • Obviously we are partial to Cassie, but when I was PG with her we had a few names in the running.  Abigail, Isabella, Cassie and Hailey.
  • DH and I have talked about baby names for quite some time.  For girls we like: Madelyn Lea and Hannah. For boys we like Jackson, and Bryson.

  • I have some names that I like but I haven't really looked into it that much.

Boys: I wanted Jack but my BF named her son Jack so that is out. Max, and Colin are also on my list.

Girls:  Riley, Charlotte, Cora Beth, ( DH doesn't like Riley)

In two weeks when we find out if it is a boy or girl we are going to break into the baby name books and really start looking.

  • I like Charlotte a lot, too.

  • Charlotte is a nice name - I like that a lot too.

Jenny - I really like Cora.  I can't believe you're finding out so soon!!

Thanks Cora is a name that I am surprised DH actually likes.  I can't wait to find out.

  • We've got first names, and are thinking of using daniel or danielle for middles, at least with our first because my maiden name was daniels and it's important that my kids know they are a daniels (huge close knit family), but I hate using surnames as middle names.

    For first names-Boys

    first son: Paul (his uncle)

    second son: Lincoln

    Girls:

first daughter: Grace (can't find a middle that I like with it though, it works better as a middle, which we could use and have her go by her middle, but that's what I have always done and it's confusing.  It is kind of a family trend though because both my grandmother and his and gone by their middle names too!)

    second daughter: Felicity or Eleanor

  • For girls names I like: Ella, Sara and Isabella

For boys I like Graham and Cameron

H thinks a boy should be named after him though...which I am totally against.

I really like Samantha too, but maybe just name her Sam. I kind of like androgenous (spelling?) names. DH and I also like the character Sam on Las Vegas. Stick out tongue

Jack was thought about too. But not sure what middle name to put with it. DH's father's name is John and my dad is Mark. Maybe Richard (for my grampy) or even Aime (my other grampy). His grandfather's name is Donald.

  • Since we started trying last year, H and I have been playing this game a lot!

Right now, we can't agree on boy names. He wants it after him (tom) and wants to call him TJ. Not sure about it. We both like Benjamin so I think we'll end up with that.

For girls, I'm very set on Lea. I love the name. He's so set on Mya. Long story short, when H's sister was born, they helped him pick out the name and gave him a choice of two names, Mya or Ronnie. He picked Mya, tehy went with Ronnie so for the last 25 years (no joke!) he's been holding a grudge and it determined to get Mya a home in his family! It's kind of cute, but also crazy so I'm warming up to the name because I may not have a choice!

  • not pregnant, but my favorite baby names are:

    Boys:  Austin, Toby, Logan, Trey

    Girls: Presley, Genevieve, Sophie

  • See siggy for our name list. We are always throwing things around too, we aren't really being too serious about it yet. Since we aren't finding out, we probably won't seriously try to narrow it down until third tri. Even then we are only narrowing it down to two names for each. We'll decide when we meet the baby.

Our middle names are set though - Andrew for a boy (after my dad) and James for a girl (after his dad).

My favorite for a boy is Jameson. Currently I am leaning towards Cailyn for a girl. I'm just not sold on how it sounds with our last name.

  • We aren't ttc but we have our list going. Once a name shows up in the PBK catalog it's off our list.

JCam- someone who I used to work with named her daughter Jameson, it was a family name. I thought it was a great name for either.

  • I honestly don't have a list... I like the older sounding names but most are really popular now. I love having a relatively unique name and not sharing it with anyone. Most people have never met anyone with my name-- it's rare that someone has. So I love that. I want that for my children in a way because we have a relatively common last name (compared to my maiden name). I'd like to base our potential names off our grandparents names like my parents did-- it like the meaning in that.

Completely opposing what I just wrote- both DH and I had grandfather's named William so that would be special for me. DH and I have rarely discussed names! It should be interesting when the time comes to discuss!

My name is pretty unique too, especially the spelling. I think I've met a handful of people with my name and the same spelling. I even get a shock response when a guest notices my name and says that they know someone with that name. I love having my name too. And my maiden name was fun too. THAT I didn't have to spell out for people (it's in the dictionary) but now my first and new last name need spelling. Stick out tongue

  • DH is John Patrick III so, naturally, he wants to name a son John Patrick IV. I think it's terrible for a child to have the EXACT same name so we'll probably be fighting on this one until the day the baby is born (and probably for a few days after =)) I think we should compromise by using a family name for the middle name and giving the child it's own first name- DH's idea of a compromise is naming a son Matthew Ryan after his brother. I actually like that name (John, not so much) but I would be terrified of having the child actually turn out like his uncle Matt ;) My big problem with naming it John also is that there is no good nickname. My H is JP, FIL is John (and I don't really like calling a baby John anyway) and I'm Jackie so we couldn't call him Jack- clearly we've thought about this way too much. The boy names I like are Liam, Mason (although it's becoming way too popular right now) and Turin (I like the idea of using place names for some reason). For girls I like Leila, Vienna and Corniglia (Cori) and we'll use a family name that fits for the middle name (Marie, Elizabeth, Grace, Ellen, Linda or Antonia).

Ella was my number 1 name but DH voted that one out hahaha
