Hey Girls,
I haven't been on here in awhile, so I'm not sure how many people may recognize my sn. Anyway, I have been living in Cincinnati (White Oak near Colerain to be specific) for 6 months now. I am originally from Toledo..so I don't have a bunch of old friends in the Nati. I work about an hour north from where I live & in my line of work I don't get to talk to a lot of people..so I haven't made many friends there. I do have several friends in West Chester area, but it would be nice to make some friends that live around me too..because I usually always end up having to drive to the other friends (which I understand because I am the only one out of 4 who lives this way). That I have found, there aren't any sports teams that I could join that are in WO.
Some Facts About Me:
-I'm 25. I've been married for 1.5 years. I don't have any kids or any kids on the way. I currently do not belong to a church (I'm still trying to decide if I want to stay at a Catholic church like I was raised or go elsewhere). I like to play board games, watch movies, shop, do any craft, I drink..but not heavily.
*Any suggestions are helpful! Thanks ![]()
Re: Friends in Colerain (White Oak)
Hi! DH grew up on Dry Ridge Rd in western Colerain township, I grew up in WO off of Jessup. Do you work in Dayton? Sorry you're having problems meeting people. White Oak can be clique-ish. Everyone went to grade school at St. James then went to LaSalle or McAuley for HS and ended up marring each other and never moved away. One of my grade school/hs classmates moved next to my parents, another lives at the bottom of the street, and another lives one street over!
Do any of your neighbors belong to sports leagues? DH used to do softball through work. Maybe a neighbor would have a lead.
Sorry that wasn't more helpful

Hey Daves SP! I know that I talked to you earlier this year when I was trying to find a sports team to join. I did end up playing some soccer through another nestie, it was fun! Hopefully the season will start up soon. But yeah, my DH went to St. James & LaSalle..lol. I do like the fact that everyone seems to know everyone around here..but most of the people that I have met in WO are family or my MILs friends..
A lot of our neighbors are older & I don't think that they play sports. I have a young couple (about 32) to the left of me, but they don't really seem interested in hanging out or whatever, so I give them their space. They could be involved in sports for all I know..but I don't really talk to them too much..
Thanks for your help & responding is plenty helpful
I work in Middletown BTW..a long drive but I love my job & I love having a job..lol.
Katie & Rottie06,
If you ever want to meet up, I am up for it these days. Maybe Panera or something? Let me know if you are interested. I am thinking of joining the book club that is mentioned on this message board.
Rottie,
I would love to have kids but we are probably waiting another year till we try. We want to have a few more things paid off before we start a human family. Are you from this area?
Katie, does your cat look like a russian blue? We have a cat named Ashley, she is pretty much a mutt, but she looks like a russian blue & seems to look similiar to your cat. Where are you from by the way?
I grew up in Northeast Ohio, came to UC for college and somehow ended up in Colerain. It is funny how is seems everyone on this side of town never really leave. I would like to meet up sometime. My life is kind of crazy at the moment. I just started back to work last week. That is a huge adjustment with the little one. Then over the weekend my Dh's grandfather past away. If you are on Facebook we do have a nest group. You can find me on there. My name is Shawna W.
DH and I are odd balls-we moved an hour away!
If you like reading then you can probably find a book club at borders. Michael's often has craft classes. Northwest school district used to have adult ed classes covering all sorts of topics. I haven't looked into it for years so I don't know what they're doing now. The east side/West Chester and Clifton seem to be more fluid with people moving in from out of town. I know it's a drive but they might have more social groups, sports teams, etc.
I'm not from the area either. I grew up in Dallas, went to college in NY and moved here to Fairfield Twp to be with my DH. I met most of my friends through sports as you've suggested, or through the Nest/Bump. As for sports, have you looked into the Western Sports Mall (http://www.westernsportsmall.net/Default.aspx ) or Soccer City (http://www.indoorsoccercity.com/ )? Both are on the Western side and offer adult sports. I've played at Soccer City for years and it's pretty nice. I'm not currently playing so I don't have a team you could play with but there are usually registered teams looking for additional players. Soccer City has a form you fill out and then they'll match you with a team with an opening.
What about your local YMCA?

A GTG would be great. I am always looking for people to hang out with. You aren't the only one with a long drive. I work in Milford, so it can get hectic. I have been in Cincy for 2 years, but I am from TN. I was born and raised outside of Pittsburgh, but I lived in TN for the past 8 years.
The book club meets once a month, and we try to plan ahead on what we are reading. February is already setup if you want to get involved. We are reading The Help (I just picked it up myself).
My cat is not a russian blue, but he is mostly a Bombay (all black except for some white tuffs underneath). He is my baby and he knows it.

Just wanted to say hello
.
I used to live on the West Side (Green Township) but have moved to Mason. If you like food and trying new places, I recently discovered a food club that meets monthly. I've never been but it sounds like a great way to try new places to eat while meeting new people. By going you know you already have one thing in common - a love for food! http://www.meetup.com/cinnkydine/
There could be other Cincy meetup interests too...just look around the site.

Hey, I'm from Monfort Heights! I'm 25 and have been married for 6 months! I would like to play volleyball if you are interested in that, we could see when leagues are forming. I am from around here so I know other people that you could meet too!
Christine,
Thanks for the suggestion! I will look into it!
Telschera (I think I got the spelling right),
My MIL lives in Monfort Heights...(but then again..I have in-laws all over..lol). You said that you are from Monfort Heights, does that mean that you still live there? I called the place mentioned in someone's post above & in order to play volleyball we need a team..they don't match up people for volleyball. They have single sex & co-ed leagues. I believe we have to have all of our info in by Feb 13.
Yes, I live in Monfort Heights right now. I think I know enough girls to make a team. Its at the Western Sports Mall right? I'll start asking around, if youre interested.
Hi. I live in Mt. Airy, about 10 minutes from White Oak. I am 30, atheist, just barely pregnant (stick baby stick), own my own environmental consulting business, and am generally regarded by my friends as not being shy.
PM me if you want to go grab coffee sometime or something.
