Last Night's Dinner

Morning Ladies!

I'm reeling from my dinner with the in laws last night. Per my previous post, our FIL summoned us (me, H, and SIL) to their house last night for dinner. He said he had an idea/proposal that he wanted to share with us. We were speculating that it might be a family vacation because they like to do that and have been talking about one for awhile. Turns out it was that (we're going to FL!) BUT there was another component to the dinner...........

They announced that they want to adopt a child from Haiti!!!!!!!!!!! I kid you not! I was just sitting there with a big grin on my face waiting for them to tell us they were kidding! They're in their 60's and I don't think are really thinking about the committment of adopting a child who has been through such a tramatic disaster. I'm all for helping out over there and I think it's completely tragic what's going on. I'm just very concerned about this decision! Am I crazy to think this is wrong!??!?!!?

Re: Last Night's Dinner

  • Wow!  That's a huge decision, to say the least.  I'm sure they have to go through some pretty stringent vetting processes though before they'll be allowed to adopt, so maybe their understanding (or your appreciation for) their seriousness will be more clear after that.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Wow, that is life-changing! I think there is probably going to be a long process but I also know people are being flown here for medical treatment. I'm not sure if some of those are orphans-- but good for them!
  • Wow, that is some big news.  While it is well-intended of them, they may be ruled out due to their age.  Unless it is a teenager, or are willing to sponsor a college-age student.

  • Thanks! I actually applaud them for being so unbelievably generous. Made me feel kinda bad about the donation I made Smile

Having said that, i really don't think they'll qualify due to their age. My H is really having a hard time dealing with it. I think selfishly, he's ready for them to be grandparents since we're TTC and he thought we'd get them all to ourselves once we have a child. I keep telling him there's a bigger cause here and they have nothing bu great intentions. It's just all so crazy and happening too fast for him to get comfy with it!
