MH and I are planning on buying new double ovens for our kitchen. We sort of need them but not really. Basically the house came with white appliances and we are slowly switching them to black. So far we have a black fridge, dishwasher, cooktop and microwave. All that is left is the double ovens and the trash compactor (which we have considered getting rid of but can't figure out what to put in it's place).
Lowes is having 0% for 6 months plus free delivery and installation right now. They will probably run this offer again around Memorial Day but maybe not (last year they did it in January and end of May - first week of June). The heating elements are going out in our current double ovens (the top oven doesn't work well at all, the bottom oven works well enough to cook our food). Technically we could pay cash but I'm always looking for ways to save money to gain interest, especially when you can get 0% financing. Oh, plus we get 10% off because MH is a vet.
So, would you go ahead and get the new ovens or wait until May? The only reason to wait really is to save up some money but we would probably end up doing the 0% on the card anyway. Oh, and I do have some people who want the double ovens that I currently have (a friend's parents - they don't have money to buy new ones).
Re: Opinions: Now or wait?
So do you have to use the card to get the free delivery and installation? Unless you do I would just pay cash. You are in a position to pay cash so the 0% isn't really going to help you much. Even at that I'd probably still pay cash and negotiate the free delivery and installation. Are you going to sell the ovens to this friends parents or just give them to them? I don't know that I'd feel comfortable selling them ovens that barely work when they are already low on money.
I already have the Lowes Card (we got it when we started replacing the applicances to get the 0% and free delivery last year).
I'm giving the ovens to the friend's family. They've offered to pay me a few hundred but since they will have to replace all of the heating elements I don't want to ask them for payment. MH and I talked about replacing the heating elements before we give them to them but decided against it (unless we keep them until May - then we will have to replace some of them).
I would get them now since you don't know if they will in fact do the 0% in May. Plus then you'll be 1 step closer to being finished with replacing your appliances.
Have you thought about a wine fridge instead of the trash compactor?
I've said wine fridge MANY times to MH instead of the compactor and he always says "Do we need a wine fridge?" I keep trying to explain it's more of a want than a need but he isn't sold on it. I just think compactors look ugly. Sure, they serve a good purpose but a wine fridge does too!
For some reason I had it in my head that ovens wouldn't be included in that....I'll have to research some more to make sure though. I could have made that up in my head to justify buying the ovens now...haha.
