I've just returned from my appointment with the OB/GYN...she's agreed to reschedule our induction to next Monday. So January 25th it will be...5 a.m. Unless Libby decides between now and then to debut on her own (I am so praying for that!). I am so glad I asked if there was any risk in waiting. If I hadn't I am sure I'd still be on schedule to induce this Wednesday even though my cervix is only 2 cm.
Since my blood sugars are good she's comfortable with delaying the induction. And, Libby measured 7 lbs. 2 oz. today whereas last week we were told 7 lbs. 8 oz. so obviously this is not an exact science (sort of frustrating, really) and I would just love to give her as much time as possible, in case the measurements are really off. No need to bring a preemie into this world for less than pressing reasons.
With delaying 5 days (from this Wednesday to next Monday) I will not need cervical softening (Cervidil or Cytotec), so we'll just start with a low dose of Pitocin and then she'll break my water. Again, more interventions than I had hoped for, but certainly less to start with then if we tried to do it this week. She has also turned sunnyside up so I have week to get her turn over. I see lots of pelvic rocking and hanging my belly in my future.
That said, I've already started my maternity leave (as of today) and considered going back into work this week, but honestly I am beat! I am not sleeping well and I am just going to take this week to prepare for labor and delivery and bringing home our baby girl.
Re: Induction Update
I already commented on your FB post, but, yeah, those ultrasounds can be way off. I'm hoping mine was an over-estimate, too!
So are you dilated or effaced at all now? I hope so!
That is great news - so glad you and Libby are doing well.
The ultrasound estimations are not very accurate. Glad your doctor was able to assess the situation and come up with a plan you feel more comfortable with.
Have you been using evening primrose oil? It doesn't induce labor but can soften the cervix - I know someone else recommended it in your post last week.
Just use this week to relax, send Libby good messages to let her know you want to meet her soon, and try acupuncture if you haven't already. Take your mom or Joseph so they can learn some acupressure points too.
2 cm dialated, no idea about effacement...she's never mentioned it. I did have bloody show last Thursday evening.

That's great, Lori...hoping you go into labor on your own and things go as you hope!
I had an u/s 36 hours before Marino was born and he was 1/2 a pound smaller than estimated on the u/s.
Good luck and hope you enjoy some rest before Libby arrives!
Hooray! Mama and baby get to stay close for a little bit longer. It sounds like everything is going closer to your original plan.
Enjoy your days and get caught up on your rest. Your body is telling you to stock up! You'll need it for labor and the many nights of BFing every couple of hours. It is a wonderful time and I would not trade those precious moments for sleep... but, moms do end up very tired. You should relax, write some notes to your baby and H and sleep.

Have you thought about accupuncture? I had it on Friday before I went into labour on Sunday.
Enjoy your last few days with Libby on the inside!

I wish you the best of luck, Lori! My OB didn't guesstimate what size Brooke was going to be, but we (including my doctor) were ALL surprised when she weighed in at a whopping 8lb 6 oz at 38 weeks!
I hope Libby comes on her own... are you trying all of the old wives tales to kick start labor?

Oh yeah....accupressure points, papaya (got a fresh one today from Whole Foods), Evening Primrose Oil, walking, bouncing on the yoga ball, and sexy time (well, the plan is to try tonight...honestly...I am not that excited about it...my vajayjay hurts!)...my concern...these things ONLY work if your body is ready. And being that I am just 38w2d, well, the odds are, it's not ready yet. But we'll try! I'd rather do these things and avoid Pitocin, etc. if at all possible.

Lori, that's great news that induction is pushed back to Monday! I've been thinking about you.
So, your ob is wanting to induce you because she doesn't want Libby getting too big? Or is it a little more complicated than that?
I always suggest this but I don't think anyone really gives it a go lol...but get yourself an oil burner and some pure Clary Sage aromatherapy oil. If the Clary Sage is the pure kind, you will only need to add a few drops of it on the oil burner and away you go.
I started burning it about 6 days (or so) before I was due to give birth to Maya and about a half hour later, I started getting contractions so I turned the oil burner off and left the room (my in laws were on a plane from Canada to us so I didn't want to go into labour before they arrived).
When they did arrive, I started burning it again on the Saturday before I was due (due on the Monday). I woke up 2 hours later in labour and Maya was born on Monday morning, her due date.
Maybe it was just a coincidence, maybe I'm sensitive to aromatherapy or maybe it really does work...worth a shot!
Yes, I have considered that Jaime. Although I am scared because everything I've read says nipple stimulation makes the contractions SUPER strong but not neccessarily great at moving along dialation or effacement. That said, I might just give it a try and see how my body handles it. It's one of those things Joseph is more than willing to assist with...LOL!
I have insulin-dependent gestational diabetes which is a cause for concern in the final weeks because of potential pre-mature placental aging. Basically the placenta breaks down faster in women using insulin to manage GD. And then there is the concern of having a too big baby. The jury is out on what's considered "too big"...personally, I feel anything under 9 lbs is "normal" especially in our families (both J's side and my side routinely deliver 8-9 lb. babies that are LONG)!
My doc's main concern is avoiding an emergency c-section, so by inducing I have better odds of delivering vaginally, which is my preference too. So Monday it is. That's 5 days before her EDD, so I feel okay with that decision.
Yep. Got some from Whole Foods. Not crazy about the scent, but if it works, I am willing to try it.

Ahhh ok. I knew you had GD and were insulin-dependant, I just wasn't sure about the reasons behind the induction. That makes sense re placental aging. However, the 'too big' issue...I know too many women that have had 9 lb'ers and even one woman (poor girl) who had 4 kids that were 11 - 12 lb'ers eek.
My mum is a medium build and I was 9 lb something. My two sisters were 8 lb something and 10 lb something (excuse the 'something's' lol...I just forgot the other number in those weights
)
Yeah, Clary Sage isn't the best scent. I didn't think too much of it myself either. But it sure as hell proved potent to me. Hopefully it will with you too!
